Can incorrect balancing cause Boiler Kettling?

I have a question on Radiator Balancing. Can balancing radiators cause a boiler to kettle if the flow is restricted through each radiator by too much? Additionally if a bypass valve is closed by too much can casue the same effect. My understanding is that if a bypass is open by too much then...

    Radiator Sizing Advice

Thanks agile for your response. Yes window definitely bigger than that. I have calculated currently as about 1.9 kw in total for the radiators. Thinking about replacing 1 radiator for double still to get additional output, don't want to go too far. Online calculators say between 3 and...

Gurgling noise in radaitors / Air

Thanks for your reply, however I have tried the match trick and didn't get a popping sounds, as the air was expelled from the radiators. I think the system needs dosing with inhibitor, so I will do that first and see it inproves the situation!

Advantages of ABV over Manual bypass Valve

Agile thanks for your response. What I want to know is will a manual bypass which is open only have a turn have any damaging effects on the system. Also would a boiler cycle more if a bypass was open more. I would assume more heat would be returned to the boiler return quicker. Thanks for...

Advantages of ABV over Manual bypass Valve

Thanks everyone for the info. Agile essentially are you saying that the only time the bypass should be providing a minimum flow to the boiler is when all valves have closed down. Or should a flow be always present through the bypass. ie for the case of a ABV it should be set only to allow...

Advantages of ABV over Manual bypass Valve

Thanks for your replies. I would like to understand fully how my central heating system works. Would I be right in thinking that the more that a manual bypass is opened the more heat is added to the return circuit to the boiler. Would I be therefore right in assuming that the boiler would...

    Potterton Suprima 40L lights

Agile, Thanks for the response. Boiler is 8 years old. The board appears to be Version 1. It is probably worth fixing now as gauranteed it will fail at the start of next winter when it is much more difficult to get someone to do it. Agile, what areas do you cover? I am sure you...

    Brown Sludge in Feed/Expansion Tank

JohnD and echoes thanks for your replies. The system is 8 years old. I have owned the house for 3 yrs. The previous owner never had the boiler serviced, so I would assume that the tank has been unchecked for 8 years. Is that reasonable time in which this might occur. I don't have a...
