    Condensation mould question

Yeah sorry no clothes drying indoors. The condensation forms in places on the wall corners as the walls are freezing this time of year and hence meets the warm air inside. Windows are all slightly open (in that open but locked position) and all windows have open vents. Bathroom has extractor fan...

    Condensation mould question

No. It's an old breeze block house so condensation forms on the inside walls of the south westerly walls in winter. We've taken all the necessary actions we can i.e. vents in new windows, no clothes etc. Also use kilrock containers. We keep on top of it spraying mould remover etc. I'm just...

    Condensation mould question

Hi, Why would mould not attach itself at all to the back of the downstairs book cabinet (smells as new) but it does attach itself to the upstairs cabinet. Both corners look equally grim after a month so sprayed with mould remover regularly this time of year. I suspect the downstairs one...

    Wood panel nails leaking?

Could I just 'wash' the front of the cedar panels with oxallic acid, If I wait until all the 'leaking' has finished? Or will the leaking continue until the nail has disintegrated and the panel falls off? The thought of removing all the panels seems a job too far for me especially the ones on the...

    Wood panel nails leaking?

Hi, We had our garden renovated a year ago. I think the nails are leaking rust or similar from the cedar panels on the fence and shed. It looks ugly. Why is it doing this and is there anything I can do to fix it before it gets even worse? Shouldn't they have used galvanised nails or similar...

Removing a stuck push up plug

Thanks. Would you believe I have a roll of PTFE for my next project. Replacing an outside leaky tap although that job looks ten times easier.

Removing a stuck push up plug

Maybe underneath the wide bit of the plug looking down and then on the black seals on the underneath? Where I'm cutting it away from basically with a stanley knife now?

Removing a stuck push up plug

Just looking what I need next. Silicon sealant remover and silicon sealant. Would you believe Wickes is almost next door to me? I should be much better at DIY, you guys really are so helpful, thank you. How about these for step 2...

Removing a stuck push up plug

Yes, the o ring looks a bit worn in truth. Veering towards buying on now. I thought they would be much more expensive in truth. So the flomasta ones give the specs as 32mm and the amazon one as width 1.25inch. That feels to be the same if my maths is correct.

Removing a stuck push up plug

Thanks guys for your help. I've really enjoyed this journey although my fingers stink of bleach and the bathroom may not be so clean to the missus standards when she gets home. So, I've unscrewed the mechanism out of the metal casing and it seems to work ok. I'm tempted to unscrew that screw and...

Removing a stuck push up plug

How wide is that at the bottom?

Removing a stuck push up plug

I've thinking that. Are they standard/expensive? Quite curious though now how it works. I've got into it and the mechanism is just sluggish so not sure how to get oil into it, maybe spray it with WD40 after soaking it in some descalant now. But as you say I might be putting a lot of effort in...

Removing a stuck push up plug

That was going to be my next question. What do I use to completely it up of sealant or do I just pick it off as best as I can with fingers? And then what sealant do I need? Is sealant a standard a thing? The unit is now soaking in bleach to clean it up a bit. Not sure if that will help. I'll see...

Removing a stuck push up plug

I've got a bit angrier and taken the entire unit apart now. Unfamiliar territory but seems to make sense.

Removing a stuck push up plug

So to add to this. I've hammer tapped it gently with a wooden block and that has done nothing either. Should I just take the unit apart? Bit tricky to get in the space with some grips.

Removing a stuck push up plug

HI, My sink push down plug is stuck in the bathroom. I've tried wd40, my son's plastic little suckers, tried putting blades down either side (can't et enough grip), rubber gloves twisting (won't move either). The only thing I haven't tried is dental floss but I figure that would fray anyway and...

Growing a plant up the wall

Hi, We've planted this (don't even know what it is) but I'd like to grow all over the back of the house or at the very least up the drainpipe. So do I get a few metres of string, tie one end to the top of the trellice and then stretch it a few metres across the back of the house and nail it in...

    Hanging a metal trellis

I thought that. Two screws for each bracket may be overkill.
