    Dehumidifier or PIV system

It appears to be a problem with these bungalows as my neighbours have the problem too. It has a double layer of loft insulation (before I moved here). It does have soffit ventillators fitted along their entire length, air can move freely from the vents to the loft space. The roof is in good...

    Fitting trickle vents for condensation

I have a 1990 bungalow and live alone, do my clothes drying outside, weather permitting but in the utility room when too cold or raining. I have fitted draught excluders around all the doors and keep all doors shut, but the windows often have a lot of condensation in the mornings in all rooms...

    Dehumidifier or PIV system

I have been looking at ways of reducing condensation on my windows and reducing humidity levels throughout the property. I have a 65 square meter bungalow. Besides fitting an extractor fan in the bathroom and Kitchen I was going to buy a dehumidifier but came across PIV systems. Some have an...

    Fitting a bathroom extractor fan.

Thank-you PrenticeBoyofDerry and ericmark for your replies. It is not quite as simple as I had initially hoped :) I was going to do the fitting of the fan and pay an electrician to wire it up. I do have an opening window in the Bathroom so maybe no need to install an extractor fan. I got the...

    Fitting a bathroom extractor fan.

Hello all, I would like to reduce the humidity in my bungalow and am thinking of getting an extractor fan fitted in my Bathroom. Is it best to position the extractor fan above the bath or in the middle of the room? The Bathroom is only 6 foot, 1.8 meters wide. I was going to route the...

Set an external light to come on at a certain time

Thank-you both. Nearest Maplins is 50 minutes away but we have a new Screwfix just opened a few miles away so I am going to get one now. It is a big Screwfix but they do not have it in stock, B&Q don't either, nor did an electrical shop in town. I can order one but it wont be in until I am...

Set an external light to come on at a certain time

Thank-you for the replies rsgaz, detlefschmitz and deadshort. I love the look of the light switch timer from MyDome. The noise would not bother me as I wont be there when it is in use. On their website it says it will work on a 2 gang switch. Is mine a 2 gang switch? Please see picture...

Set an external light to come on at a certain time

Hello, I have an external light that I turn on when it gets dark outside. The switch is in the Hallway. I am going away for a couple of days, is there a gadget I can use to make the light turn on at a certain time and off at a certain time? The light is not operated by PIR motion detector, I...

    Outside light constantly on

So when one of your lights always stays on, what do you do to rectify the problem?

    Outside light constantly on

Yes I understand they can be turned on permanently by the method you mentioned (strange it only caused one light to do this) and this is apparently the problem I have with one for the lights. This is why I turned the consumer unit off and gave it at least 20 seconds before turning it on again.

    Outside light constantly on

There are 2 tiny dials on the underside of the motion detector. One has a picture of a clock an this is adjusted to the amount of time the light should stay on once activated, for now I have this set at minimum. The other dial has a crescent moon and sun picture, mine is set to come on during...

    Outside light constantly on

A few days ago I turned off the consumer box in the Garage which controls the 2 outside lights because I wanted to go out and look at the Moon with my telescope for the next few nights. I turned the small consumer box back on yesterday and 1 motion sensor light is functioning as it should, the...

    Mould developing on furniture

The property had been empty for over a year, I moved in March 2015. I have not had the heating on since May as it has been warm. I will need to put the heating on next month I expect.

    Mould developing on furniture

Thank-you for the reply. It is a 1990 detached bungalow in good condition. It was empty for over a year before I moved in but was by far the best one I viewed. I have decorated every room and found no evidence of damp or mould in any room. The loft is double thickness insulated, all UPVC double...

    Mould developing on furniture

Thanks for the reply. Would that stop the mould from developing on the inside of my bed drawers? The kitchen and bathroom are free from any mould.

    Mould developing on furniture

I moved into this bungalow in March, decorated every room and laid carpets. Bought a new divan bed, pine furniture for the lounge and bedroom. I used to get condensation on my windows when I first moved here but started to open my windows every morning, never dry my washing indoors, I use the...

    Repairing external Fascia board.

This property was built around 1988 so I do not know if they prepared the wood correctly or how many coats of paint were applied. Picture 2 is around a bay window, yes the undercloaking does not come out as far as I would have liked. I am going to replace that section and the whole 2 meter...
