Making a hole bigger that has a cable in it?

Want to avoid that ideally, would still be a struggle fishing the cable from the existing to new one though?

Making a hole bigger that has a cable in it?

I have this task today, replacing a CCTV camera on the exterior of a house (brick) but need to expand the current 15mm hole to 25mm. The problem is, the CAT5 cable comes out of this hole and access inside is now not possible (wooden flooring). Options I’ve thought of: 1. Tape 1mm draw wire...

    Paperwork to confirm job?

Thank you. Is there any situation where a sparky would not provide a certificate?

    Paperwork to confirm job?

Hi All, Last year, our builder contracted an electrician to fit c.27 downlights throughout our kitchen/diner/outdoor soffits. The work was completed (no issues). Last week we had an EICR and the electrician (a different one) asked if we had the paperwork for the works the previous electrician...

Ring Main - OK to Spur?

Thanks Dave. Typically the room has been plastered so the junction boxes are my best bet. I’ll redo all the cables and throw them in a Wago XL box with 222’s?!

Ring Main - OK to Spur?

Thanks for the response Dave. In this particular instance then, where would you spur from? I would have thought a socket ideally, however, would going from one of the junction boxes cause a problem?

Ring Main - OK to Spur?

Thanks for the feedback, and I completely agree that testing needs to be carried out before any amendments are made. For clarity, here is what I’m trying to achieve.

Ring Main - OK to Spur?

Hi, Attached is how my socket circuit is mapped in our master bedroom. I need to add another socket but access to the existing sockets is a challenge. Is it acceptable by today’s standards to run a spur (2.5mm single cable) from one of the existing junction boxes to a new socket?

    Mapei - Dirty Grout!?

Hello Everyone. Had my kitchen diner tiled which looks awesome, however within a week the grout is really dirty, almost like a yellow colour. Foot traffic is high however footwear is always removed. It cleans up fine (and looks 10x better when wet, frustratingly) but Mapei have suggest I seal...

What would you do? Outer sheath removed outside of back box.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have had a closer look this morning and it appears that the cores are wrapped in insulation tape up until point of entry into the back box, therefore having an extra layer of protection unlike first thoughts.

What would you do? Outer sheath removed outside of back box.

Thanks for the responses everyone. @conny is right, it should have been resolved prior to plastering (my fault, it was on my to do list and didn’t happen). The external sheath is missing for less than an inch outside the back box, and I’m hopeful that this shouldn’t cause any issues, although...

What would you do? Outer sheath removed outside of back box.

Hi Everyone, Looking for some advice as to what I should do next... I have a spur being taken from a socket on the ring, supplying a socket 1 metre away for a wall mounted TV. However, the 2.5mm cable that is being used for the spur has its outer sheath stripped back by about an inch outside...

    Replacing Texecom Keypad Batteries

Thanks for the response. I popped the other keypad into engineer mode and fortunately the wireless keypads operate with 3 of the 4 batteries in, so 1 by 1, I replaced them and were up and running.

    Replacing Texecom Keypad Batteries

Hi, Due to replace my wireless keypad batteries today. Is it as simple as entering the engineer code on the main keypad (wired), change wireless keypad batteries, and then we’re back up and running? Or is it more complicated than this!?

    Laminate Meets Tile

Hi All, In the process of tiling our downstairs hallway, which will meet the laminate from the downstairs toilet. As per attached, I need to trim back the laminate but how far do I go? I’ve pencilled a line which is essentially to the front of the door but thinking about it, that line should...
