Plasterboard - is soundshield any good?

I've noticed the 15mm stuff and have the dividers between bedrooms to do. I'll fill the cavity with Rockwool anyway, but will this soundshield stuff make much difference?

How to fit waste into wall for wall hung sink

I'm using a chrome bottle trap so compression/push fit waste size where it goes into the stud wall. If I use a normal 90 degree bend (compression or push fit) the fitting sticks out of the wall too far for the chrome wall plate from the bottle trap to be able to cover it. What do you folks...

    Render over DPC

It's pretty normal for the DPC to be rendered over. The render should contain a waterproofer and wont bridge over any significant amount of water

How to put in 6" lintel

The struct engineer has calculated a 6" is required, BC only want to come and see the lintel when it's inserted and say they can't tell me how to do it. I'm happy putting in the acros, strongboys and putting in the lintel with a 20 by 20 padstone, but a few questions: 1. What mix of...

    Connecting MDPE to stop tap

I've got the insert for the MDPE pipe. THe stop tap is brass and has a brass olive which would normally be crushed onto copper pipe to seal. It's designed for MDPE, but I presume I don't do it up as tight as with copper so that the olive isn't deformed and it will be okay? This is the stop...

    Bi folds or French doors?

I've got an extension going up and the opening's 2.15m wide. I'd like bi folds, but my builder thinks they'll take up about 60cm folded and he reckons French doors would be better for such a small opening. Views please both from those who've fitted small bi folds and those in the know!

Pipe sizes in new mains pressure water system

I'm running 25mm MDPE upto the stop cock. I'm then planning to go to 22mm copper and split in three ways - 15mm plastic to kitchen sink, another 15mm split to combi then 22mm to feed two bathrooms and to split into 15mm at each. Does this sound sensible?

    Waterproofer for render

I've heard bad things about Sika, re: not being suitable for moxing in a cement mixer: http://www.screwfix.com/p/sika-sika-1-waterproofer-yellow-5ltr/34457 This Screwfix own brand stuff is far cheaper too. Anyone got any experience of it...

    What sand for rendering

I've had three quotes to do some rendering onto aerated blockwork. Two of the guys wanted to use 50/50 mix of sharp sand and building sand and only one was keen on plastering sand. Should I discount the other two straight away? Seems logical that "plastering sand" should be the most suitable...

Gap filling and smoothing concrete garage floor

It's rough around the perimeter and I know I can't use floor leveller where the car goes as it'll crack, but is this my best bet for filling joins etc and raising the edge around the edge of the garage floor prior to painting?
