What brand DPC creams are considered good?

I'm going to do a DPC. Who are considered the market leaders for DPC creams? As silicone is the active ingredient, does it make much difference which brand is purchased? I've seen this one, but never heard of them before...

    Locating FCUs in cupboards

Sorry - how is this done? The whole ring circuit obviously has an isolator, but what would I use to isolate the kitchen appliances that aren't plugged into accessible plugs?

    Locating FCUs in cupboards

I'm in England From what I've read on these forums the regs say that appliances that are built in must have easily accessible switches to isolate the supply in case of fault etc. For built in microwaves, fridge/freezer, w/m and d/w I'd love to just plus them into sockets behind the items, but...

    Locating FCUs in cupboards

Thanks. What's are the rules on having one FCU feed a double unswitched socket that then feeds two appliances (e.g. dishwasher and washing machine). Presumably this is allowable?

How to fit stair handrail where it meets wall...

I've taken out the wall that ran alongside the staircase on one side. I now want to fit a newel post, handrail, and banisters etc to the left hand side (see picture). I can't work out what to do thought where they'll meet the wall - they'll be slightly offset from the wall to the right, so do...

    Foundation size for garage

No - the floor is an old concrete slab that currently sits on soil and is completely intact and without cracks despite having parked my car there for a long time, so I'm not going to replace this, just the foundation 45 deep by 30 wide sounds reasonable and for such a light garage adequate...

Plasterboarding over lathe and plaster ceiling

I've found the joists and will set 45mm drywall screws into them and cut the boards to end along a joist. What do I do where the boards meet at 90 degrees to the joists and there's obviously nothing to screw into. The joists are 14 inches apart. I presume the ends will move and crack over time?

    Replacing frosted side window

I've got a frosted side window on the first floor, that is in the stairs landing. It can be seen from the road but I'd like to get it replaced with a clear one. Are there going to be any issues with that would stop me doing so, i.e. loss of privacy for neighbours etc? The house is from...

    Foundation size for garage

I'm building a 1 1/2 size garage in lightweight Celcon blocks. The roof comes in at about 600kg and it's a single block thick (with midway supports). It's also 14m2 so no BC What size foundation should I use? 200 wide, 400 deep or 300 wide and 600 deep?

Door lining for 89mm CLS plus 12.5mm board

Woody - where did you get your finished 115mm lining - was it a national firm? I phoned the local timber merchants to me today and none had it.

    Lintel or RSJ

An external wall with a large opening - it's likely going to be an RSJ. You'll need the building control officer to sign off the extension and he'll want to see load calculations for whatever you use there anyway along with the other calcs.

Door lining for 89mm CLS plus 12.5mm board

Thanks Delux - It's only three boards so I'll probably put them doubled up. Yep - you're dead right, wish I did use the 3 by 2. I know for next time though.

Door lining for 89mm CLS plus 12.5mm board

Thanks Woody - just been to Travis Perkins. The 115 linings are 115 NOM and 108 finished. The guy suggested either: 1. Making a lining from timber 2. Getting a 131mm lining and doubling up the plasterboard one side 3. Using 9.5mm board (I don't want to go down this route for a hallway) I...

Door lining for 89mm CLS plus 12.5mm board

The standard sizes are: 108 and 131. However with 12.5mm board 89 CLS will come to 114 What do you folks do?

Building stud wall with CLS 2.55m high

I've got to build a stud wall 2.55m high. I've used CLS 89 by 38 before which only comes in 2.4m lengths. With the ceiling and floor piece I'm still going to be about 60mm short. I could run two pieces of timber along floor and ceiling instead of 1 to make up this gap, but it seems like a bodge...

    Wired audio setup for home

I'm refurbing my house and redoing all teh wires, adding Cat 5e networking etc. I'm also considering some sort of wired hifi system so I don't end up with trailing speaker leads. I want to keep the cost down, so wont be going down the zoned route. I'm considering at a simple level just...

    Stud wall timber size

Thanks guys. Looking at your suggestion of CLS Woody - I've used 100 x 47 C16 before. What is CLS? 89 by 38 is cheaper per metre plus if you're saying it's more likely to come straight then this could be a no brainer? Is there a standard timber for stud walls - C16 or CLS?
