    British Gas - homecare service

Hi I know BG is looked on with disdain by a lot of people on here but does anyone rate their homecare service for boiler maintenance/repairs? I've got an intermittent problem with my Potterton and am quite tempted by their £9 a month, £50 fixed fee per problem deal. I know it'll be £158...

    SPLIT:Hot flushing toilet

My Dad deliberately ran some hot water (along with the cold) to his toilet cistern to try and stop condensation on the cistern itself. Seemed to work okay.

    Fitting a new bathroom

Richie I agree with what both hi-spec and poshman have said. My Dad (a very competent DIYer) and I recently installed a new bathroom at my house. This involved stripping the room to a shell - right down to removing the plaster and floorboards. You then get to see the bodges that have been...

    Potterton Performa 28 - flue/fan problem

Thanks for the information Chris. Is the printed circuit board easy to replace for a novice? I assume it's undo the front panel screws, slide the panel off, drop the control panel, remove the old pcb and slot the new one in? I'm not sure of the part number but I'll check my boiler serial...

    Potterton Performa 28 - flue/fan problem

Hi I've got a Potterton Performa 28 combi. I had a pressure problem with it which I've sorted (it was a leaking draincock.) However, a couple of weeks ago it failed to work and the fan/flue neon was flashing - I reset it and all seemed okay. The same thing happened again last week and again...

    Potterton Performa 28 problem

Apologies in advance for silly questions!! If I noticed a leak after topping up via the filling loop would that indicate which area the leak was likely to be from i.e. pressure release valve etc.? Would the lack of evidence of a leak even though the pressure is dropping be normal - possibly...

    Potterton Performa 28 problem

Hi I've got a Potterton Performa 28 combi boiler. We moved into the house about a month ago after several months doing it up. I'm not really confident enough to attempt a boiler repair myself but would like a better understanding of what the problem might be before I call someone out. It...

MDF bath panels - best way of fixing

I had considered magnets but again I'm not convinced they would be strong enough to hold it in position, as I said it is fairly weighty and with the knocks it's likely to receive from the children it may slip down. Thanks for your suggestion and to all the others too.

MDF bath panels - best way of fixing

Many thanks for the advice and ideas. Velcro sounds simple but I'm not sure it would hold the panels - they are quite heavy. The clips suggestion by Symptoms sounds ideal. There were no fastenings in the packaging - the panels themselves are made by 'Sherwood.' As the height of the panels...

MDF bath panels - best way of fixing

Hi I've fitted my new bath (well, my Dad has) along with with a wooden batten frame. The bath panels (side and end) are white MDF with a panel and plinth for each. Does anyone have any advice on types of fixings for these? I can screw the plinth to the frame and the plinth screws will...

    Another ceiling light problem

Hi I'm fitting a new flush fitting bathroom ceiling light to replace the old pendant fitting. There are 3 grey wires coming through the ceiling (red, black and earth in each). In the pendant 2 of the blacks are in connectors with the blue light fitting wire, the 3 reds are in the middle...

Tiling up to and around window - problem

Hi I'm tiling my bathroom and on one wall where the bath and shower is I need to tile up to the ceiling and window edge. I then want to continue the tiles around the inside of the window and the rest of the wall but only part way up the window/rest of wall. The problem I have is that with...
