    Is my screeded floor insulated??

Ha ha very good - yes i think you are probably right When did building regs change to require insulation on solid floors?

    Heating controls question

Crikey @ericmark that was a bit more than I was expecting and shows theres clealy a bit more to it than I had realised. But since youve so kindly educated me perhaps you could enlighten me on a few things! My system is currently a Worcester Bosch 15ri heat only boiler, with the bog standard...

    Is my screeded floor insulated??

Morning I have a screeded floor in my downstairs 1990 built house. Im thinking of installing underfloor heating when an extension gets done later this year. Does anyone know if there is an easy (ish) way of telling whether the floor has a layer of insulation within it? Not sure what the regs...

    Electric car charger with solar

Sorry one other thing - if I use ducting am i right in thinking you dont have to worry quite so much about laying sand/ gravel etc below and immediately around the ducting/ cables?

    Heating controls question

Hi all I might be needing to get some new central heating controls set up in the near future. Is this a job for any electrician or do some plumbers do this sort of thing themselves?

    Electric car charger with solar

Thanks - thats not a bad suggestion actually about just sticking the ducting in for now. Out of interest how do you actually pull cabling over that sort of distance down a duct? Presumably you lay some ropes through the ducting when it goes in the ground and then attach to the end of the cable...

    Electric car charger with solar

Hello I wonder if anyone can advise me of something. I am planning to get an electric charger installed in my garage, which is around 25m from my house. The current plan is to dig a trench from the electricity meter to the garage and run a 6mm cable to the fuse board, where it will have its own...

    Kitchen electrics - DIY?

Thanks all - I need to contact the building control officer about a few other tings anyway so will ask them what their opinion is. Its not going to be anything complicated anyway so even if they act silly I could just stump up a a few hundred for a sparky if they really insist. Cheers

    Kitchen electrics - DIY?

Hello I am planning the build for our new single story extension which will result in a large kitchen diner type room. Half the area already has the existing kitchen, with all wiring in place on its own ring. There is also a dedicated cooker circuit. What I'm trying to work out is whether it...

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Fair point - but when I wrote that I was feeling very disappointed with the advice of my most recent professional. I like to have some understanding of the problems with my system so I can have an informed discussion with a pro when I do involve one.

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Thanks DP I actually think I have made some progress in the sense that my heating now comes on consistently and stays on, albeit at a lower temperature than is needed. I have also demonstrated to myself that a powerflush probably isnt the solution here, which is something Id been wondering...

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Thanks for previous advice. I can confirm that the pump is definitely installed in the correct orientation. Bit of an update if I may. Up until about about a week ago the system was unchanged vs whats described above. One evening both my wife and I heard a slightly odd clunk come from...

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Worcester bosch Greenstar r15i Have had the boiler thermostat on max or jus below Interestingly it used to cut out with the blue flashing light sometimes when it was left on max for too long - Id always assumed this was because it overheated. Hasnt done that for the last few weeks when on max...

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Thanks - Afraid I have lost a bit of faith in the professionals. Last one that came round (he was there fiddling for around half an hour), advised me to basically do what ive done. And has made no difference....

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Thanks Yes it is fitted correctly I have it set on proportional pressure curve 2 which according to manual fits my system as closely as possible (relatively long distribution pipes, TRVs). Irrespective of what the pump is doing surely the boiler should be heating the feed side beyond 50 degrees?

    Boiler thermistor broken?

Hi all. Apologies for the long post. I have been having some central heating issues recently....started after I had to drain down the system after a leak, refilled and ever since has been problematic. However I have always had problems with this system and have needed to run the pump on full...

Is my heating circulation pump knackered?

So just done an experiment - please tell me if you think Im being stupid. So on one of the flow rad tails I got a flow rate of 16 litres per minute with the pump on full whack With the pump off I got a flow rate of 10 litres per minute From this I concluded that the head of water above the...

Is my heating circulation pump knackered?

15mm pipe work to the rads. I did not shut the pump valves when filling via mains, but did turn boiler off. I didnt run the mains tap at full blast, just a fairly gentle flow. How could i tell if the seals have blown? if ive damaged pump during the back filling could that be now causing the...

Is my heating circulation pump knackered?

Thanks all for the advice. Ive thought for a while I probably need to pay fora power flush. Thats the specific question I asked the plumber who came round and he sold it as 'dont pay for a powerflush when it may not be the root cause of the problem. Oh look your systems been converted to...
