Why are arris rails preferred for feather edge fencing

I'm about to make feather edge fence panels on a slope. Not stepped, I'll be having top cut parallel to ground. Also using durapost which has 50mm gap for the rails. And using dewalt nailgun 50mm galvanised nails 2.8g ring shank. I don't know what rails to use... I thought 38mm depth rails (a...

Building a fence above a retaining wall

I'm building a wooden fence above a (to be created) retaining wall around the bottom perimeter of the garden. I want the wall to be 6ft high (hit and miss fence pailings). On the inside of the fence in the garden there will be about 1 metre of backfill. I'm not sure which is best... 10 feet...

will Dewalt DCN692 do for my fencing job

I'm doing a fence job - approx 50m in length, 25 posts (100mm x 100mm) and 650 pailings (hit and miss double sided) so thats 3900 nails @ 50mm and 300 @ 90mm nails. Pailings will be 25mm thick so hoping 50mm nail and 2.8mm diameter will suffice? Side rails will be 50mm thick (2" by 3") - so...

Fixing drop leaf table to plasterboard wall

Finished the job. I was going to use some mdf in between the hinged wings underneath the top horizontal rail, for extra support but i don't think it needs it. I was pleased with the 4 anchor brolly screws on the horizontal and 4 on the verticals. Also got 1 long screw into the stud.

Fixing drop leaf table to plasterboard wall

This might be bad form, but despite the risk of the wall coming down I'm going to try just anchor brollys. I've got the rawlplug tool too. My stud is too close to a door so I won't be able to open it fully with the desk behind it. Although there is a stud at the other side of wall that I might...

Fixing drop leaf table to plasterboard wall

sorry I'm not sure what a captive wall is? But it's not under stairs. It's a full length wall from the edge of house to a bedroom door. It separates a bedroom and a corridor.

Fixing drop leaf table to plasterboard wall

I wouldn't have believed it but, yes! I can see a very faint line under a torch! 80cm from door edge on one side and at the other side of the wall I see a faint line under torch at 100cm (Now I feel like Indiana Jones when he used that staff in a tomb to find the arc!) In answer to other...

Fixing drop leaf table to plasterboard wall

Both good ideas... Making own studs and using wire to find studs! Even though it could be a big job making the wall good again. Re: making own studs... How did you fix them in place and stop lateral movement?

Fixing drop leaf table to plasterboard wall

I'm fixing a drop leaf table to a plasterboard wall. I've read other threads advising to find the studs and fix to a stud. My wall is only 1.95m in length. You'd think there should be a stud? But I'm struggling to find one! It has the same echo all over. I wonder if there's a sound frequency...

Spruce up black slate floor tiles

Just finished the tiles and I have to say I'm impressed with the slate seal. These tiles have never looked as good the seal put a shine and an obvious waterproof coating on that I've never seen on these tiles when the were laid by the tiler! I didn't think he sealed them! He said he did when he...

Spruce up black slate floor tiles

Ha yes, bit sore but I did have knee pads thankfully. And every now and then I tried to take pressure off them by stretching 1 leg out

Spruce up black slate floor tiles

I was thinking maybe I should have resealed it before regrouting? Maybe that's why the grout residue wouldn't come off?

Spruce up black slate floor tiles

Well the grout removal tool was good, but the teeth have worn down after 1 floor and several scrubbing. I guess that's normal. Big problem now is cleaning the tiles after grouting. It's taking forever to clean and takes about 6 scrubbing sessions. I've left it half hour to touch dry but then...

    Curtain holdbacks securing to wall

What about expanding foam or cement or would that cause a problem with damp coming through?

    Curtain holdbacks securing to wall

I think its plasterboard, its quite thin (about 1/2 inch and then a gap into thin air, before outer wall. It doesn't matter if I use a plug, that still spins around too because its so thin. The screw is attached to the holdback so I can't use a different screw. I can only think to put a thin...

Floor trim beading, can't get angle right

It's a proper electric sliding saw too. I've tried turning the beading around for the other side and also switching the saw blade to -45 too but I can't get it right. I guess its trial n error

Floor trim beading, can't get angle right

I have some floor trim/beading to go around my new laminate floor, but I'm struggling to get a nice 45° degree angle. I have a mitre saw which has 45° setting but the trim is not flat so I can't get the angle to be flush. Skotia edge by barnsley7 posted 8 Dec 2019 at 3:18 PM Skotia trim by...
