    Crawl space under floor insulation

The crawling space is separated in two areas divided by s supporting wall. The first part has 62cm space between the joists. The second has 54cm between joists. I am thinking to buy rockroof flexi roll which comes in 10x100x500cm. It is quite wide so I can use 62x100 and 54x100 pieces. Cut...

    Crawl space under floor insulation

I did a bit more checking today. There is a first window to access the crawling space with about 62cm diagonal opening, then a secondary window with 55 diagonal opening. So rigid PIR insulation would not go through, only option is rockwool rol that is flexible enough to squeeze through. The...

    Crawl space under floor insulation

Hi, my ground floor wooden floor is quite cold. Underneath there is vented crawling space and I have access from a small window. I am thinking to add rock wool insulation under the floor between the joists. How thick should be the insulation? Except from chicken wire, any other ways to support...

    Ceiling weight hanging

There is a small opening next to the electric wire hanging from the ceiling. From there I can see the joist from below and the closer beam that seats about 15 cm or 6 inches away. So will manage to attach to the joist a steel eye plate with two screws like the one in the picture. I could also...

    Ceiling weight hanging

I do not have access above the ceiling, the picture is from the next room in which I make a bathroom above. Though, from below the ceiling, I could add through the plaster two wood screws to better secure the smaller joist under the beams. The beams are 60cm apart form each other. Under the...

    Ceiling weight hanging

Hello, I want to hang a 15 pounds chandelier from my ceiling. I cannot hang it directly under the beam because it is not in the center of the room. It is a plaster and lath/straw ceiling and there are smaller joists under the beams 1 x 2.5 inces (see picture from above). Will the smaller joists...

old steel pipe thread sealing external

Hi, I have renovated and re-installed some cast iron radiators after installing new flooring. Since the floor was raised by a quarter inch i have twisted upwards the old pipe joint by tightening it slightly (see photos). Now there is a very small leak, a drop every hour or so. I cannot remove...

    straw and plaster ceiling cut

Above there is a room with wooden flooring. On top of the joists there are three layers of wood, 18mm original boards, then 12mm chipboard sheets and on top 14mm oak flooring. Overall thickness is of the boards is 44mm. I am not having access from above. I might be able to fix a bracket like the...

    straw and plaster ceiling cut

it might be OK with a bit smaller hole, about 2-3". I might need to insert my hand inside so as to install a hook or a bracket on the joist. i will then install a rosette so the hole will not be a problem. My concern is that if I cat it with a plasterboard saw, it might crack the ceiling?

    straw and plaster ceiling cut

I can see the straw, as in the picture, so I assume it is a straw and plaster ceiling. In another room I can see a bit better through the crack and looks like straws.

    straw and plaster ceiling cut

I need to install a chandelier around 15-20 pounds heavy in my ceiling. Now there is a lightweight pedant light that is hanging from an attachment with two screws into the ceiling. For the chandelier I need to find the wooden joist to install a hook for hanging the heavy chandelier. How can i...

Lexan or plexiglass load bearing sheet

Hi I am renovating my basement window under my front entrance (see picture). Before there was a metal rack there but allowed a lot of dirt in, from the door mat and the dust form the wind. The opening is 60x18 inches. I am thinking to install a transparent lexan or plexiglass sheet. The sheet...

Preparing system after new pipe installation

I am thinking to clean a heating system which has some 40 years old steel pipes, cast iron radiators and some newly installed steel pipes. I am thinking to use Sentinel X400 first to clean the system before using normal inhibitor. Is there any risk that by cleaning the system will create leaks...

floor edge gap too tight to the wall

Just to make it clear, my question is: Does it need more gap for the wood to expand?

floor edge gap too tight to the wall

I am having a new floor in my reception (see pictures). It looks nice but when I look in the edge of the floor, where it meets the old skirting board, it appears as having no gap in some places. At the moment I have removed the radiators and the temperature is between 10-13 celsius degrees...
