    UFH supplier

Not necessarily going for cheapest - actually I had it wrong (must be because it's the end of the week!) Ambiente is currently top price by £450 not £1000. They have quoted for Groundfos manifolds etc though. Once I've got all the quotes, I'll look through them properly to see which one looks best

    UFH supplier

Just a quick update. I submitted quote requests to four companies in the end: Ambiente (https://ambienteufh.co.uk/)- the quote took two days and so far the most expensive! ~£450 more than closest quote so far, for similar setup. UK Underfloor Heating (http://www.ukunderfloorheating.co.uk/) -...

    Help with new UFH/Rad Install

No, the UFH will run on a mixer manifold with pump - sorry, it's not marked on that diagram

    Help with new UFH/Rad Install

OK, here goes...its not the best diagram in the world, but this is what I'm proposing. (Sorry, don't seem to be able to rotate it!) All rooms controlled by neostats, with the bathroom stat turning on both the UFH and towel rail at the same time. The bathroom is downstairs BTW. Any suggestions...

    Help with new UFH/Rad Install

Ah, I didn't notice the twin entry...and I did wonder about the auto bypass as it's coming off a combi. All rads will be manual valves, and not twin entry. No need for TRVs as they'll be controlled by the thermostats/manifold. It was more the way the manifolds were plumbed back to the combi I...

    Help with new UFH/Rad Install

Thanks Andrew - I will take a look at those - they certainly look good at first glance! With regard to the plumbing, is this the best way to plumb two manifolds in? (I realise this shows two sets of rads, but the theory is the same)

    Help with new UFH/Rad Install

Hi all We've got a combi boiler and are fitting UFH (4 zones) downstairs. No problems there! We've got rads upstairs (x4), and while things are all apart in our house, I want to convert these to run off a manifold with individual timer/thermostats in each room to make it more efficient. I've...

    Thicknesser and Planer

Hi all Just looking for a bit of quick advice. I am considering buying a thicknesser/planer to straighten out wood for different projects. The question I have is, are they really only any good for straightening already PAR wood, or are they ok for straightening up of the cheaper sawn stuff you...

    Ventilating New Ground Floor

Yes you're right. Our house does face straight into the pavement. To make matters worse, we are at the bottom of a small valley, so the water table is quite high here. Some water splashing is inevitable, but shouldn't be a big deal if you place the air brick high enough. Our house is stone...

    Ventilating New Ground Floor

Thanks Freddy After doing some quick fag packet maths, it seems that the savings on putting down a timber subfloor is fairly negligible, plus with a limecrete slab, we could put in a decent UFH system. Ventilation at the front of the house isn't a big deal, it's trying to vent it any the back...

    Ventilating New Ground Floor

Hi all, and I hope that you had a merry Christmas! We are shortly about to rip out all the old floor and subfloor in our early 1800s mid terrace. We were originally going to go down the limcrete route, but budget is tight and we're not going to be able to afford it. Anyway, we've decided on a...

    Freelander Start Motor Whoes

The starter motor has become intermittent on my Freelander...I see somebody sells solenoid replacement/repair kits on ebay for all sorts of makes and models. Anyone used these? £15 must be better than £150 for a whole new starter!

    Lintel Replacement

Morning guys! We have an early 1800 stone rubble cottage in Cornwall. I was measuring up for new windows upstairs to find that the previous owner had cemented over the wooden lintel from outside, allowing it to rot away nicely. The walls are thick (as you'd expect). The lintels are made up...

    Bradfords Stoves

hi all, we're renovating our house and found a fireplace in our upstairs bedroom. We'd like to fit a small log burner. Won't get used a lot, more for aesthetics than anything, but has anyone got experience of the bradfords stoves? This one is very competitively priced...just wondered if it...

    Solarspot

Thinking of getting one of these to brighten up our landing which has no natural light. Has anybody got one or have experience of them? At nearly £500 without fitting it's not something I want to waste money on, but potentially it looks really good! Link: https://syneco.co.uk/shop/

    Packing 1st floor joists

I'm fitting new joists to our old house, and the load bearing wall is rubble. What are your thoughts to packing them like this? Seem OK, but wondering whether I should be shuttering and making a cement pad. (brick looks wonky in pics, but is actually straight!)
