    Type E cavity tray installation

Don't think the weep holes are going to be an issue because the builder is going to fill them with mortar. There is only about 4m2 of exposed brickwork anyway.

    Type E cavity tray installation

Building control insisted on the cavity trays when the builder didn't want to install them, but when he came to visit on Thursday he didn't even look at or mention the cavity trays and said he won't be coming again until the final inspection. The builder is a good bloke and he even went to the...

    Type E cavity tray installation

Thanks for the reply, you say the lead flashing upstand has to be a minimum of 150mm from the tiles. My lead flashing is only covering 1 brink so its not 150mm. Could it be that the window sits lower than 150mm so they have put the flashing below the lowest window.

    Type E cavity tray installation

Hi, I've just had some cavity trays fitted due to an extension on the rear of my property. The third course up from the top of the tiles was removed and the cavity trays installed. The lead flashing was then installed one course up from the top of the tiles. This now means that I can see the...

Polythene membrane between celotex and UFH pipework?

Hi, My builder says I should put a polythene membrane between the celotex insulation and my PB UFH pipework because there is some form of reaction between the foil on the celotex and the pipework that can damage the pipe. I can't find any mention of this on the JG site ( I'm using JG PB...

Best way to test UFH pipework

Hi, I am about to lay UFH pipework for my extension, what is the best way to test it for leaks prior to screeding. I cannot connect up to central heating because the pipework is not in place yet. Someone mentioned air pressuring testing with a car foot pump but how would a good seal be...

    Type of glazing used ??

Yes I got in writing to have Soft Coat Low 'E'. I even made a point of it before ordering and was assured they only ever used Soft coat Low 'E'. The thing is these doors cost over £7000 and were supposed to be the highest spec. I contacted the glazing suppliers who supplied the company I...

    Type of glazing used ??

Hi, I have just had some folding sliding doors installed and was made clear to the supplier that I need very efficient glazing to satisfy building control and that only Soft Coat low 'E' Argon filled would be suitable. The doors were installed today whist I was at work and they gave the...

    Anyone used QPL barrier pipe

Is it any worse than the JG BP pipe or should I pay the extra £25. I didn't want to pay extra for pipe if there was no noticable difference.

    Anyone used QPL barrier pipe

Hi, I am putting together the bits and pieces for my underfloor heating for a single zone extension. There will be x2 of approx 100m of PB pipe. I already have 100m of JG speedfit PB pipe and and considering getting this pipe...

Difference between JG Speedfit Polybutylene Pipe Grey&Wh

Hi, Looking into the getting some PB pipe for my underfloor heating. I have a JG speedfit single room pump control unit and need about 200m of PB pipe. I am going to get 2 rolls of 100m but all UFH PB pipe seems to be listed as white and yet there is a JG speedfit PB pipe in grey that is...

Can't get glazing bars into a new UPVC window

Thanks for the reply, had a bit of a disaster today. Installed one unit all Ok. Got the corner done on the second unit and worked all the way to the other corner, gave it a tap and 'CRACK' the unit failed on the corner. Unfortunatley for me it was the larger unit at 1350x930. I didn't...

Can't get glazing bars into a new UPVC window

Hi, I am trying to install the glazing into a new UPVC window but I can't get the glazing bars in. I've tried hitting the corners with a plastic mallet and holding a piece of wood against it so as not to damage the plastic but it just won't click in. Is there any special technique or...

Where to place glazing packers in a bottom opening window

Hi, When I collected my UPVC unit I was informed that if i didn't use the packers with the glazing the sealed units would fail within weeks. I have one fixed pane which i presume I place the 5mm packers and the bottom and possibly at the sides to square the unit up. The opener is one for...

    DIY installation of UPVC window

Thanks for the reply. I found a guide on the internet and it said to screw the cill to the brickwork, I did this with no8 80mm frame fixings at 200mm from ends and one in the centre. I also ran a bead of framefixing sealent under the cill. It then said to screw through the bottom of the window...

Heating controls for vaillant ecotec boiler and UFH

Think I've sorted it in my head now. What they call switched live from the UFH pack will actaully be the CH call from the 2 port valve (orange cable). The programmer for the Rad cct will be wired in to activate the 2 port valve for the rads which will then supply a CH call orange wire also. It...

Heating controls for vaillant ecotec boiler and UFH

Knew it wouldn't be long before I was back. Spudkey, could you give me a little more info on the wiring arrangement. All the wiring at the manifold seems reasonably straightforward as it is all detailed. What I would like to know is the switched live from the UFH pack will go to the boiler...
