    Flat roof leaking

Kitchen extension has a felt flat roof, and during the recent storms it leaked. It came in along the house wall so im guessing its leaking where the felt is against the wall. My plan is to give it a good clean then paint with flashband primer, followed by some flash band tape, plus get some...

    Flow/Return Thermistor Fault.

Had this for the second time now. Pressing restart gets it working. I have contacted the installer as well but im wondering if it could be something simple. The installer asked if i had a bypass radiator and was it fully open. Which i dont have as that would defeat the point of Evohome, i do...

I have one bit of gutter that overflows when it rains. It holds water so its definitely a low spot around the bay window, right on the corner where it sticks out. Anyone in and around Manchester that can come and fix it. Its not something i can be bothered doing myself at the minute i would...

    Insulating plastic fittings.

What does everyone use to insulate around the fittings of plastic pipe. I have loads of the 25mm thick climaflex stuff for the 15 and 22mm pipes. My first thought is to just use some hair felt wrapped around, with maybe some foil tape around that to keep it tidy.

    Chasing a brick wall.

I have a cavity brick wall i need to chase for running central heating pipes to upstairs. I'm pretty sure the wall is non load bearing, its the end wall of the house so the joists aren't on it, am i right in thinking i can take upto 1/3rd out so for standard bricks around 34mm. Is there a limit...

Will 22mm plastic pipe fit inside 28mm.

Wanting a pipe/conduit to bury in the wall to allow me to run the 22mm flow and return to upstairs. It will be going into a solid brick wall from what i gather i can take upto around 30mm out of the brick vertically. So idealy i want to keep the conduit as small OD as i can, hoping the 28mm will...

    Replace plasterboard ceiling.

Just making sure im not missing anything. During removing the spikey bits on a textured coating on the celing it was obvious the coating wasnt stuck very well, also lots of sagging section where the board has dropped slightly. So im going to replace the lot, at least its the easy to get to top...

    Airvents and blocking them up

Im decorating a room and removed an air vent, the plan is to brick it up is this okay. The airvent never seemed to have any airflow and on removal it turns out the house has cavity insulation. I removed the "fluff" from in front of the air brick, and reaching up it appears to be clear into...

    Ongoing Home Improvements

So having never done any plastering or plumbing before i decided to tackle as much as i can myself. Thanks to these forums and the wealth of information available on the internet. When we moved in the first thing we did was get an electrician to rewire the house, a single socket in each room...

    Washing Machine and Dryer Waste

Will these two fit together to allow me to drain a washing machine and dryer, not at the same time. http://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-washing-machine-trap-white-40mm/18640 with the dryer using this. http://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-appliance-trap-adaptor-white-40mm/11180 Or is it better...

    Boiler position

Can a combi be mounted in a garage, fixed to the side of the house wall, with the flue straight up through the garage roof, its a flat roof. I originally wanted it in the kitchen extension to give faster hot water to the taps, but running the pipes would be much harder, would need to go through...

    Hanging a heavy radiator.

Got a new radiator to fit in the bedroom, took down a 600x1400 single and replacing with a type 21 600x1800 so its a fair bit heavier, its going on i think its breeze block, looks like compressed gravel and breaks up easily with about 15mm of plaster. I'm thinking 8x70 coach screws should be...

    Radiator sizing

I'm about to start fitting the first of some new radiators, i think i get most of it. So far i have used this calculator. http://www.theradiatorcompany.co.uk/heatoutput/ 4.140 x 2.970 x 2.440 with a large window. This gives me an upper figure of 5275 BTU (1546kw) for the room in question. Now...

    Old Central Heating

Been browsing the site for ages, but its time to show my face. Have an old central heating system that just doesn't get the house up to temperature, mix of old boiler, many layers of paint on undersized radiators. I plan on doing the radiators and pipework myself and just getting people in to...
