Recommended way to add power cord to socket where plug won't fit

ok thanks. I'm happy using one of those, but the problem is the drylining box & socket is currently 2-gang as mentioned earlier so do you know how I can convert it to 1-gang? That's the only reason I started looking at junction boxes! ie is it possible without removing 2-gang dry lining box...

Recommended way to add power cord to socket where plug won't fit

I want to plug in a power cord. But the plug socket is behind a unit so there is no space for the plug. It is a 2-gang socket so I can't use a flex outlet plate. Am I allowed to remove the plug socket and connect the wires inside a maintenance free junction box such as the Ashley J803 leaving it...

What washing machine spigot to attach to 32mm solvent waste?

I have created a new waste out of 32mm solvent weld. I have used all Hunterplastics items for this, which are nominally 32mm (actual 36mm). (I know it is possible to join compression pipe to solvent pipe by using a straight compression fitting). So, I have a solvent weld upstand pipe for my...

    what constitutes a new circuit?

In my own home am I allowed to add an extra socket on the ring main? (no actual increase in number of sockets since I will be removing an unwanted one. So in a sense re-siteing a socket I suppose). Am I allowed to rewire parts of a ring circuit to remove inaccesable junction boxes fitted by...

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

I really don't think standard plasterboard is a) dangerous and b) illegal. I've just spent about 3 mins reading and it would appear standard plasterboard actually behaves in a very secure way in fires. In fact British Gypsum state their standard wallboard is 'Suitable for most applications...

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

Well maybe someone could point me to some regs cos as far as I know no-one uses fire rated plasterboard as standard when doing up properties, except for protecting specific areas such as RSJ's, and I don't believe that it's use is required for standard ceilings.

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

here's a pic after I've sorted out some of it. A whole load of wires & the junction box that was on the left have been removed as they are not required.

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

Indeed it is trapped. I tried to pull it out but it's too tightly wedged. Fortunately it's their satellite tv cable, not an electric cable.

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

I'm not there at the moment but there was no tape used - the wire went into the connector directly, and the box was clicked shut. (It was some kind of integral box to the light fitting). It looks like it was all done properly.

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

Hi No I have not made any cuts to the joists that is as it was butchered by previous owners. No new holes will (need!) to be cut in any re-arranging. Looks like I'm spoilt for choice. I'm not at the property at the moment but the ceiling board of the below flat looks like standard...

How close to these downlights can I put insulation?

Haven't got a decent pic but the flat downstairs has had new downlights fitted recently you can see two of them in this pic. I assume they are fire rated. I intend to put Rockwall Sound insulation between the joists. Although rockwall is non-flammable I assume I need to leave some clearance...

Best combi boiler? Popular, reliable, compact

as title. Since my potterton puma 80 is getting old, I'm going to start planning for replacement. Top wants on my list would be a boiler that is reliable, well made, popular (so common faults will be well known amongst plumbers) and compact - it is for a very space-limited london flat, so...

Am I allowed to change flow switch on potterton 80?

yes a puma. So I can change it? I feel confident I can do so, although obviously I don't have test equipment. thankyou

Am I allowed to change flow switch on potterton 80?

looks like you cant really as you would need to check stuff depending on what you've changed and possibly 'recommission' the boiler so looks like I won't chance it, as you can't check some stuff eg gas pressure without being gas safe. Found this useful...

Am I allowed to change flow switch on potterton 80?

legally? I have established I have the problem of the dhw flow switch sticking on (causing overheating and lockout) so it needs changing. Am I legally allowed to change this? I am not a heating engineer or gas safe. Not sure what the legal position is these days, years ago I would have just...

Am I allowed to replace this junction box?

I've got to replace that back bit of wall (plasterboard) so thought I'd tidy up the pipes / waste / wires / etc. The wall is going to be re-boarded and plastered (tiles etc all coming off first) so just wanted to make it neat as I have to get rid of the holes in the wall!

Am I allowed to replace this junction box?

ok thanks. On a similar note some other bits of wiring are poorly routed and look in poor condition. Is it acceptable for me to replace like for like but pin more suitably, or is that then in the realms of requiring a qualified electrician because of the rules about routing between wall studs...

Am I allowed to replace this junction box?

I'm changing my kitchen and noticed this junction box screwed to a joist under the floorboards. I know they are meant to be accessible and this isn't. I am just asking if I am strictly allowed due to laws etc. as I don't know so thought I'd ask. I would replace with WAGOBOX and connectors.
