    identify product used to secure glass pane?

    Hope this is not too of topic for this thread. I woke up to a window in my shed cracked - so need to replace. It is very straigtforward as to how it is secured now. just a pane of glass stuck into the precut frame with no beading etc. I am not sure what product has been used and would be...

    Daft question about decking oil

    I have exactly the same problem and have been wondering about it myself. I see no easy way out of it - I wouldn't be walking over it after only 15/30 mins etc. The only way out I see is to oil as many boards as you can reach back over to do again without touching/walking on the last one done...

    protecting garden rocking chairs - oil?

    Hi I have bought 2 rocking chairs for the garden and would like some recommendations on finishing/protecting them. They are made from Chinese Fir and have been given a coat of preservative to add a ‘natural finish’. No further information on that preservative is given. The link to the...

    suitable for border lining?

    Thanks - I thought it sounded ideal, however wondered whether in anyway it would not be good for plants/soil etc

    suitable for border lining?

    I am sorting out a few border areas and the backdrop for these will be a fence run (feather boards with gaps). I need to put something against the fence between the face of the fence boards and the soil for the border or the soil will just fall through the fence gaps into another area of hard...

    lol - thanks - decided to go ahead so fingers crossed it will be no worse than today - I can cope with that and yea I have a bit of shelter from that west wind.....having said that I wouldn't have went up a step ladder today :)

    winds?

    helpful to know about the estimate of ten barrows per ton - thanks.....still monitoring and yet to decide finally. I have 30MPH winds at the moment so i can get a good idea what its likely to be like tomorrow. i don't seem to be getting exposed to the worst of it due to some protection based on...

    winds?

    A little unusual perhaps for this forum but I thought maybe you seasoned outdoor workers would have a better idea than me - I live in Northern Ireland and a weather warning has been issued for here for Monday and Tuesday for strong winds. having looked there predicting around 30MPH. I am...

    how many tonnes/bulk bags do i need?

    Thanks for the thoughts. i only went with 3 inches per previous advice. if 2 inches is sufficient i have no probs with that. There are no low spots as such. I probably didn't describe the gradients well enough. Its level but on various gradients.......2 inches everywhere would be OK given what...

    how many tonnes/bulk bags do i need?

    I will be using scottish beech pebbles as a decorative stone size 20-30mm to cover an area of 40 square metres. The area has several gradients in it and as the depth will differ in places to level I am finding it hard to reach a quantity that I think I need - hence after being frustrated at...

    wet timber and power tools

    thanks - just needed reassurance that no major issues in doing this. Don't think I will be planing much - but its good to know none the less. I'm surprised over the years that I have never really been in the situation before now where I had wet timber to work with - I guess I always stored it...

    wet timber and power tools

    With a bit of luck with the weather this weekend I will be building a deck. Are there any problems or things I should watch out for when cutting wet timber (6x2 joists mainly as the deck boards are stored inside) with my powered mitre saw or any other power saws etc. I assume (hope) this is not...

    using end grain preserver/wood protection

    and just to be clear - do you then when its wet of course (or do you wait till its dry!) fix it to dry joists (wet end joists to dry joists when fixing joists) - I assume that's common practice - just want to hear people saying that they dip it/apply with brush and the fix wet immediately - OR...

    using end grain preserver/wood protection

    I admire your approach to this, however I can not see myself doing this. I am working with various angles and until the main frame is secured I would not be confident of the exact sizes of other joists etc

    using end grain preserver/wood protection

    Thanks for the response. That was my idea personally as I cant think of any other sensible option. I doubt the second coat would have much value and the time between cutting and fixing/using is less than a minute at times. I was thinking I may have been going mad and missing something...
