Thanks John,
It will have to be Number 2 as I will be doing all the work myself, but that will save me quite a bit of money, so will be ok to pay for the testing.
And thanks for the last bit about complying with BS7671, it makes sense.
Dave
Thanks for the info.
From your 3 options, it will be number 2, but what do you mean 'tell the council how you propose to comply with Part P¹' would that be draw out a circuit diagram or just a list of circuits with details of cable sizes, the run of cable etc?
The information I got from the...
Thanks Chaps,
I contacted my local council building control office who roughly said what you had said, But said I don't need to inform them just do the work, but it will need testing by a Competent person afterwards and then I notify them of the details and they update the property records. They...
Hi All,
I'm in the process of buying a house, its quite old (1946-1950's) the wiring is also old.

Hi,
Its a standard Glow worm boiler (fully pumped open vented system) all runs ok, but when the roomstat is turned down, the boiler is still turning on and off all the time.
Does anyone have any ideas/pointers of where to start looking?
Any help would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
Hello Chaps,
Sorry looks like I haven't explained very well.
No the L+N in and L+N out don't go to the boiler, the L+N out goes to the connection box in the airing cupboard.
There is a connector block behind the switch. The yellow wire doesn't look like an earth, but I will put my meter...
The wire is yellow and it goes into a 5 core cable going to the boiler.
I can't understand why there is a 5th connector at the back of the switch.
The switch will switch the L+N which is 4 connectors, but not sure why there would be another place for another wire?
I could do with a view...
Hi,
I have a new style MK fused switch which is connected to a standard gas boiler.
I'm trying to sort out the electrical connections to it and the boiler in readyness for a new boiler.
The problem I have is there are 5 connections on the back of the switch, plus the earth connection. I...
Just to disappoint you all its a TR7!
They didn't get the number stamped into the shell until 1980 onwards, my car is before that.
I don't have the v5 but need the chassis number to register it.
And again all the clubs etc don't have any info, so I was hoping that someone on here might...
Hi, I've been to all the clubs but they cannot help, the DVLA won't help, I've also done some vehicle data checks with the registration number but they all require the chassis number to be inputted and then they tell you if its right.
Hello,
Basically I'm trying to get hold of my Chassis number and as its an early Triumph it was never stamped into the bodyshell.
I've been through British Motor Heritage but they couldn't trace it through the engine number. They advised me to go to a friendly car dealership and see if...
Thanks for the info chaps, I'll have to sit down and study it and compare it to what I have.
I have 3 wires comming from the cylinder stat,
One connects to the Grey wire of the 3 way valve.
One connects to the controller
One connects to the Orange wire of the 3 way valve and also a blue...
Hi Breesey,
Thanks for your reply. Yes the white wire goes to the controller at the moment, not sure which terminal without checking. But there are just 4 wires going to the controller, the white one, one from the cylinder stat and live and neutral.
Thanks,
Dave
Hi,
I have a standard boiler set up, ie wall mounted boiler with 3 position valve, pump and controller in the Airing cupboard. The system doesn't have a room stat, only TRVs on the radiators.
I'm not happy with this, so I'm planning to fit a room thermostst, my question is how do I wire...
Thanks chaps for your replies,
The rubber y piece looks good, that could work and the slip coupler is a good idea also.
I could adapt your idea Norcon, by using 2 slip couplers. As you say cut out a section of pipe and slide a coupler over the upper pipe and also slide a coupler over the...
Hi Guys,
Its a basic problem really, but I'm really stuck!
I have a soil stack running through the corner of a room (ceiling to floor) and want to connect a toilet into it. The stack can't be pushed up or pushed down, its fixed, so if I cut a section out, how do I connect a toilet...
Thanks ollski,
But wouldn't the venturii be OK if it works on CH and wouldn't that be the same for the gas modulation as well? (I'm not doubting you, just checking)
I have had the heat exchanger block up before and that caused the boiler to lock out, its not doing that, it relights Ok.
Hello,
I'm looking for a bit of help on the following problem...
The CH works 100%
The DHW works OK for about 30 seconds, then the flame goes out, then after another 30 secs it cuts back in. The cycle repeats.
Its a Halstead Finest Gold. I've been searching through the previous...
Hi
I'm looking at getting a Sony LCD TV and I need to know what the different model numbers mean, ie 40 S 2500, 40 V 2500, 40 W 2500.
What is the difference between the S, the V, and the W ?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave
