Hello,

Basically I'm trying to get hold of my Chassis number and as its an early Triumph it was never stamped into the bodyshell.

I've been through British Motor Heritage but they couldn't trace it through the engine number. They advised me to go to a friendly car dealership and see if they could help, but I don't know any!

Is there anyone who could possibly help me with this as I'm running out of ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

What model is it? Presumably we're talking classic car here so I would suggest you try a specialist forum for your particular model as the experts there may be able to give you some clues.

Hi, I've been to all the clubs but they cannot help, the DVLA won't help, I've also done some vehicle data checks with the registration number but they all require the chassis number to be inputted and then they tell you if its right.

Many old cars had it stamped somewhere near the drivers door sill just under the carpet or trim.

Just out of interest what is it?

I always fancied a Triumph Mayflower since I was a lad, it looked like a scaled down Rolls Royce ;)

Yeah, what is it?
I very nearly bought a Mayflower myself some years back. Wish I had now!

Bit more on topic, A lot of those older cars had the number on an ally plate that used to corrode IIRC. Although (again IIRC) the chassis number was usually stamped somewhere else as well.
I'd have thought someone must have had the same problem. As already suggested I'd try one of the classic car forums.

Haven't you got the registration document?

Has it got the original engine number and regno?

Are you in the owners club?

Are you going to tell us the model?

Just to disappoint you all its a TR7!

They didn't get the number stamped into the shell until 1980 onwards, my car is before that.
I don't have the v5 but need the chassis number to register it.

And again all the clubs etc don't have any info, so I was hoping that someone on here might work at a car Dealership and be able to do the check for me? I would be willing to pay them for their time.

If I can't register it then I'll just have to break it for bits which is something I really don't want to do. (most might think it best broken to bits..lol) I bought it as a project and want to put it back on the road.

According to the dvla website you only need the vin to reclaim the original reg number. If you don't have a vin they can allocate a new one and allow you to get a new reg once you prove you have stamped the vin.

Check suspension towers and passenger door near lock.

My Triumph Dolly had the chassis number stamped into the lip where the boot closes.

Not sure about TR7s.

If you're putting it back on the road, bin the 2 litre lump and bung a Rover V8 in.

If you are desperate to put it on the road and have no other way of doing so with the current shell; I would "buy" a VIN off a scrapped car and use that.
Finding a completely ****** TR7 that will never see the road again would be possible.....they love a good bit of rot after all. :)
