    shim low pitch joists?

Won't all the downward force be applied to the edge of the plate though? If I leave them barely in contact with it?

    shim low pitch joists?

I'm replacing the roof on a "sun room" but it's nearly flat 5%. I'm not using firrings, the ceiling will slope as it did. The thing is, cutting birdsmouths that shallow is fiddly as it's barely even the kerf of the saw blade. Can I use shims instead? If so can I buy them and are they...

    Flush beam fixing?

I'm wondering and confusing myself with too much thinking about what is the best way to fix flush beams on top of my new lean-to/sun room. If I was just using blocking between joists then I'd offset them to make it easy to nail or screw each one, however, every other one of my joists is being...

    straps and oak and staining

I'd like to use some galvanised restraint straps but it will be fixed into oak. Would sticking some plastic dpc between the strap and wood be enough to avoid the oak staining? Cheers! Carl.

    No wall plate?

I'm replacing a clear plastic flat roof, which was on a lean-to, with timbers and onduline. What's the best way to attach joists to the top of a single brick wall when there isn't room for a wallplate? Can I turn the wall plate vertical like this and use metal straps to hold it in place...

    Attached??! garage.

I've got an old attached garage with a very low pitch roof going away from the house to a single brick wall (with piers). The 2x4 rafters seem to just sit on the top of that wall, with just a fascia nailed on the outside. I can't see how they are fixed if at all. They don't sit on a timber...

    Leanto timber choice?

Cheers. Yeah after a bit more research I'm thinking I need to atleast use redwood if not something better like western red cedar or a hardwood.

    Leanto timber choice?

Hi all! If I build a lean-to out of construction dry graded softwood (spruce) and treat it with cuprinol, is it going to last or will I be replacing bits and/or having to treat it again every year? Cheers!

    Timber garage door seal?

Hi, Does anyone know if there is a standard way to protect the bottom of the old style wooden garage doors from the weather etc? Currently there is no weather bar and the bottom just shuts against a strip of wood with no foam draft seal or the like. Cheers, Carl

    Improving garage slab floor

I want to improve my garage floor. It's only used for storage, never for cars, they wouldn't fit down the side of the house. I don't want to raise the level more than about 15 mm. The floor is a concrete slab, plastic sheet then 2 inch screed. Can anyone recommend a reasonable way to...

    small roof hole repair

Thanks, will try sealant, though the sheets are on decking so not easy to get under. Might have to push something through the hole first so the sealant has support.

    small roof hole repair

Hi, I've just roofed my attached garage with onduline (bitmumen corrugated sheets) but one of the nails bent half way and created a hole about 10 mm across. Do I repair this the same way I would felt, with some mastic and maybe repair tape? Cheers! Carl

    Thin floor insulation

Thanks. There will still be a step down, and anything I do is way better than the sorry state of a garage it is now. No doubt in the future I can get a proper conversion but now all I'm doing is minor repair. p.s. also found this thread http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=217011

    Thin floor insulation

Hey all, I want to repair and improve my garage which currently has a concrete subfloor, plastic sheet dpm and 2 inches of screed. It's only used for storage, no cars. Just a quick job and it's crucial not to bring the height up much at all. I was thinking another plastic dpm...

    Apron flashing

Thanks, I've got the tray and fillers for the eaves, it's the ridge up against a wall I wasn't sure about. Apologies for not being clearer. I've decided to just buy the proper coroline apron flashing part instead as they aren't that expensive.

    Levelling after dpm?

Sorry what I meant was I was going to use the wickes dpm and self leveller on top of an existing 2 inch screed. However, wickes web site q&a says you can't put self leveller on top of their dpm.

    Apron flashing

Does anyone know if I need the corrugated apron flashing which you can get for oduline bitumem roofing? Or can it be done with normal flashing and corrugated eaves fillers? Thanks!
