    How smooth should render be?

I've just had my extension re-rendered after some building work. On the whole, the job is good. There is however one patch about 2-3" wide and about 6" long, that looks "patched", as in, its been filled after the rest went off. Plasterer says its nothing to worry about, and you'll never...

Grohe Shower - stiff flow lever

Hi Took delivery of a Grohe Avensys modern EV shower yesterday. Not plumbed in yet, but inspecting it in the packaging, the flow lever is really stiff. I struggled to move it the first inch or so - my wife has arthritis in the wrist and can hardly move it. I wondered whether its faulty, or...

    Tiling and shower

I'm going to tile my bathroom. Have read the sticky etc, and I intend putting WBP ply on the floor first. Should I put the ply under the shower, do I tile under the shower, or just lay both up to it? Its an awkward shape because its quadrant. I'm thinking though that because its a stone...

    New Cloakroom

Perhaps that's where the misunderstanding occured between my conversations with them, I'm not replacing plumbing - I'm creating a new cloakroom. Thanks for info!

    New Cloakroom

I am having a new cloakroom fitted to an understairs area. I was speaking with my Building Control officer yesterday about an associated issue, and he mentioned that I needed Building Regs approval for the connection to the soil pipe. This contradicted info I'd been given by one of his...

    Hotpoint RFS60 Fridge Freezer problem

This used to happen with mine. I found that the trickle drain in the bottom of the fridge would ice up quite quickly, letting the condensation in the back of thr fridge run under the salad bins. The only way to clear it was to allow the freezer to defrost.

    Power Tools Suggestions

Sorry big-all, one more question. I've looked at the specs for that Ryobi Mitre Saw, and it says the max cutting size for a cross cut is 125mm x 55mm, isn't that a bit short for decking? It also says that a 90 degree mitre cut max cut is 90x55 I've never used a mitre saw before, so don't...

    Power Tools Suggestions

I will get those, and probably the mitre saw you suggested earlier. All I need then is an angle grinder! Thanks very much for those finds, you're a gent ;)

    Power Tools Suggestions

[/b] Where would that be? Don't know if its worth getting the full Ryobi kit, as I don't know if the jigsaw or circular would be used in the future. I guess I'll need something for cutting panels to size for the wardrobes, but other than that, I can't think of a another use. Thanks for...

    Power Tools Suggestions

I'm renovating my house and two things I'll be doing shortly is fitting sliding door wardrobes and building a raised deck. I had originally planned on getting the Ryobi One Plus kit http://www.toolmix.com/browse/product.asp?gid=1813&pid=72546 I have a mains operated hammer drill, and a...

    Boiler Choice

Sorry, I know this is a DIY forum, but I figured you guys would be the best people to ask. My wife is having a grant for central heating. The plumbers say that the standard boiler is a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28i junior. My wife has a bath every night, and we wondered whether it would be...

    Light Switch

Thanks for the advice, managed to get the lightswitch level with some minor adjustment. Also got the socket as good as flush. Dave

    Light Switch

Faceplates have been fitted, which is how I can tell the switch is off centre and the socket isn't flush. They're not fancy, just standard white ones. I was advised not to go for chrome or brass because the wet plaster tarnishes them. I think the backbox on the socket wasn't sunk deep...

    Light Switch

Just had my house rewired. Plasterer has just finished covereing up the chisseled runs and skimmed over all the walls. I've just noticed that one of the light switches isn't straight, it's on a bit of an angle. I don't know if I'm being overly fussy to expect this to be straight? If I get...

    Easy to use flushplate

Hi I'm renovating my house and re-fitting my bathroom. I've bought the suite (back to the wall WC), and intend using a concealed cistern inside some studwork. I plan on getting the Grohe concealed cistern (38661), and originally hoped to use a flushplate like their 38565 skateplate...

    Heavy/Large Tiles

Thanks gcol. Undecided yet whether it will be skim or plasterboard. Tiler wants to see what's behind the current tiles, which have been laid over another set of tiles!!

    Heavy/Large Tiles

I'm hoping to tile my bathroom shortly (floor and walls). Never done it before, but after reading Gcol's sticky and some other bits, I reckon its within my capabilities. One question though. My wife likes Jerusalem Stone polished tiles, the ones we are interested in are 600x400x13mm...

    Cast Iron Downpipe

I've discussed this on here before, but have a different question this time! I have a cast iron downpipe with no shoe at the bottom, and hence water is sitting in the little gulley next to the house instead of being directed away. I don't really want to fork out £30+ for a cast iron show...

    Boiler Advice

Thanks for the replies both. In defence of the fitter, he didn't say the boiler had a 5 year warranty, I assumed that after seeing something about it on the baxi site  Think I'll go with the Vaillant!! Cheers Dave

    Boiler Advice

Probably been done a thousand times, but I couldn't find a directly relevant post on the search facility. Plumber has recommended Baxi 105 HE combi boiler, says its got a good flow rate for the price, and 5 year warranty. Everything I read screams Vaillant. On paper, the EcoTec 831 has...
