I'm renovating my house and two things I'll be doing shortly is fitting sliding door wardrobes and building a raised deck.

I had originally planned on getting the Ryobi One Plus kit http://www.toolmix.com/browse/product.asp?gid=1813&pid=72546

I have a mains operated hammer drill, and a handheld power driver, but they don't give me the torque or felixibility I need, so I've decided I'll need a decent cordless drill/driver.

I had thought that the circular saw would do the job, but I've read other posts where people have said about using a mitre saw instead for decking cuts etc. What about http://www.toolmix.com/browse/product.asp?gid=544&pid=70890 ?

Once my house is done, I'm not likely to be doing a whole lot of DIY, so I'd like to avoid the big expensive kit if possible!

Any thoughts on any of the above kit/alternatives? I did look at seperates such as a Bosch cordless drill/driver, but don't know what's best!

Cheers

Dave

i personaly would highly recomend the ryobi one plus
it will like any jigsaw or circ saw cut decking

i rate ryobi as diy light to medium trade and will do 80 to 90% of what the equivilent dewalt will do
but as said before a mitre of slider is a much easier neater option especialy if you have large timbers or have arcatrave and skirting to cut

you could use something like this
http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.as...-Ems1425l-254mm-Laser-Compound-Mitre-Saw-240v

and i recon you could get you 3 one + piece for about £20 cheaper

I have so far bought the following;
SDS breaker drill £34 (so far demolished 2 large walls & it’s still OK); 14 volt torque drill/driver with 2 batteries £27. Circular saw (tipped blade) £24; mitre saw (tipped blade) £20; Belt sander £20; Electric planner £20. Pendulum jig saw £18; Diamond disc tile cutter £30. I already had a large Bosch hammer drill & this always gets a lot of regular use but I also bought another variable speed hammer chaepo £22.
If you’re unlikely to use the tools once you’ve finished & they are just going to sit on the garage shelf, my advice is but the cheapest Chinese imports you can find & spend your money on the house. Look at them closely for any serious cheapo flaws but the ones I’ve bought so far seem to work perfectly well, if not a little basic looking & heavier than quality tools. I’m ¾ the way through a total room by room renovation (22 months) & they all still work perfectly well.

Where would that be?
Don't know if its worth getting the full Ryobi kit, as I don't know if the jigsaw or circular would be used in the future. I guess I'll need something for cutting panels to size for the wardrobes, but other than that, I can't think of a another use.

Thanks for advice Richard C.

ask at "buy a tool" for the angle grinder at the same time get a discount and save 7.50 aditional postage

Sorry big-all, one more question.

I've looked at the specs for that Ryobi Mitre Saw, and it says the max cutting size for a cross cut is 125mm x 55mm, isn't that a bit short for decking? It also says that a 90 degree mitre cut max cut is 90x55

I've never used a mitre saw before, so don't know if I'm being dull  , but will this really cut standard decking sizes? I've only had a quick look at the decking timbers, but most seem to be 140mm wide. Should I be looking for a sliding saw instead

Cheers

Dave

140mm timbers thats nearly six inches !!!

i thought they where nearer 3.5x 1.5"

if you cutting loads of wide boards get a slider but if its only the occasional board then you can rotate/flip the wood and do a second cut
