    Hardwood flooring question

Thanks for the reply chappers. I spoke to the flooring company who suggested instead of using another piece of underlay to use an offcut of hardboard instead. The problem with using underlay is that over time this will just compress and put stress on the joints of the wood. Tonight I'm going...

    Hardwood flooring question

Hi, Over the past few days I've been working on laying some bamboo flooring in our bedroom. By the time I've been getting home there hasn't been much daylight and so progress has been slow. The room is 2/3 complete and yesterday I decided to have a walk on the floor. There is an area of...

Best way to cut porcelain mosaic tiles

Hi all, I would like to cut some Victorian style porcelain tiles (100mm x 100mm x 7mm) purchased from Topps tiles. They came on a mesh of 5 x 5 and we'd like to rotate the design 45deg in the hearth. This means cutting a few. Maybe more than a few :) Is the best tool to use a manual tile...

    Preparing for a plasterer

Hi all, Firstly please allow me to apologise for the numerous questions. There is a lot going on at the moment and I need as much help as I can get! Our first room is almost prepared for plastering. The majority of the wallpaper has been removed (all three layers of it), the skirting boards...

    Plywood choices!

Thank you for this. Very helpful indeed. I now realise 18mm+ is overkill.

    Plywood choices!

Hi all, I'm about to order some plywood in order to cover the floorboards in my bathroom ready for the installation of vinyl. I have become completely confused with what plywood I should actually be ordering. Hardwood, softwood, structural/non-structural, different thicknesses etc...

Opinions on Hitachi C10FCE2 miter saw

Interesting. I used it for the first time last night to make up a simple workbench and noticed that even with the marker set to 0 it wasn't cutting straight. I played with the positioning a little and now seems to be spot on. Cheers

    Have I gone too far?

Thanks. I'll take a look at this in more detail when the builder comes at the weekend.

Opinions on Hitachi C10FCE2 miter saw

This is a DIY forum. If everyone took advice like yours this forum and all the great information it contains wouldn't exist. I am certainly not trying to prove a point. I simply wanted a little help in choosing the right tool. Thank you for your advice all the same.

Opinions on Hitachi C10FCE2 miter saw

I have used them in the past and like to think I have a degree of common sense about me. If you think I'm cutting this wooden flooring by hand you're mistaken :P

    Have I gone too far?

I believe it's the former. Brick > plaster > battens > plasterboard > paint. It's all coming down. It's actually quite therapeutic. Any tips for when installing the drywall?

    Have I gone too far?

I've started to take down the plaster and plasterboard in what will eventually be our new bathroom. I'm glad I did as structurally some of it is shocking. The batons that go into the brick are loose and it's all a bit of a mess. The plan (once the electrician has been) is to put new batons up...

    Drywall onto uneven plaster

Just to double check. Here is what I'm dealing with. I gather I'm taking everything off back to the stone. This is incredibly soft itself, perhaps limestone? Thanks again

Removing adhesive from wood and slate

Thank you. I knew it was a Yeoman but wasn't sure on the particular model. I may toy with the idea of removing it and restoring. We will see. Plenty of other things to be doing around the house at the moment.

    Drywall onto uneven plaster

As I thought. Thanks for confirming that. Any tricks as to what to look out for when taking layers of plaster off? I have no idea what sort of depth I need to aim for. Will it be obvious when I reach the supporting structures? I guess I'll just take it slow and steady until I find what I'm...

    Drywall onto uneven plaster

Hi, We would like to convert one of our rooms into a bathroom. I've had a few tradesmen round to take a look and offer quotes etc. It's all very doable with no unforeseen nasties (as of yet). The stack pipe and water services are all easily routable. Naturally I would like to keep the costs...
