As it was built 2006 by Wimpey has anyone ever got hold of original plans from the builder? or the builder control officer? Wondered if this could save some time and money being able to...

    PIR light only on constant

Hi, I hane a PIR light from focus about £8 and used to work when someone passed and go off after a certain time. But I had it unplugged for some time in the summer and now when I turn it on it stays constantly on. I am sure you can quickly turn it on and off or similar to switch between the 2...

    Child swing between 2 walls

Hi All, I plan on building a childs swing for a 1.5 and 4.5 year old in the garden. Our grass area is too small but we have a stone patio area between the house and garage. My idea was to hang a round or square wooden beam between the house and garage and hang 2 swings off that. I have seen...

    Advice on loft window

Hi, I am looking at fitting a roof window we have none at the moment, its a newish house built 2006 with red roof tiles not slate. My rafters are 55cm to 58cm wide so I have found a window in B&Q for £119 at 55cm x 98cm. I assume I will not be able to cut the rafters for a bigger window...

    ERA hook lock not locking

I have tried to lock door with key when door is open, and still does not lock so it is not to do with the door frame. I managed to lock it just by trying lots of times and will use the back door until I know how to fix or until I can afford a locksmith. thanks

    ERA hook lock not locking

Hi, I have an era lock that seems to be of the type with 2 hooks, that works by pushing up door handle, which engages 2 hooks into holes in frame and also a middle block that looks like a normal yale lock. The house was built in 2008. At the moment I cannot turn the door handle up far enough to...

    Painting Internal Brickwork

Hello, We have just finished building a conservatory and would like to paint over the old external wall which is now internal. Is there any way to prepare the surface i.e a sealant first before we paint it? Also what is the best type of paint to use. We did consider having the wall...

    Installing an outside tap

The pipe to be used will be from the sink sorry not WC so will be mains fed. We may put a temp kit in for now until we get a bit more cash as just built a conservatory. There will very little pipework as the toilet has an outside wall right next to the sink. We will get a few more quotes...

    Installing an outside tap

I just had a conservatory built and now need to remove the outside tap and fit a new one. The best place is from the front WC, I guess the pipe under the sink. We had a plumber out who said it was a really easy job and then quoted £200 but I see the self fitting kits in screwfix, B & Q etc...

Light and power socket to conservatory

Ok, the light switch is right by the door to the conswervatory so will leave in position. The extra sockets I think I will get a sparky in to do, though I only have one wall as its a full height lean to conservatory. So it is likely to be 2 doubles next to each other.

Light and power socket to conservatory

to clarify again the pir is removed cable just loose with some tape on end and switch off! I guess I can easily wire a new indoor light myself and get a sparky to run a spur from existing power socket in kitchen?

Light and power socket to conservatory

ok, I feel like a naughty schoolboy! to clarify the pir light was fed from a light switch in kitchen as this switch controlled the pir, now removed. I can see no fuse swith, there is one about 50cm away but I am sure that is for the washing machine . I probably will get a sparky its just...

    Blocking an external water tap

Is this a compression fitting as I have looked at pipe and looks like if I unscrew it it might have a thread on it and not enough sticking out to be able to cut and add a compression fitting, I think! Just googled stop ends on most seem compression fittings and are in mm so I guess 12mm will...
