hi - the electric shower has a plastic pipe for conection. A 15mm ferral slips over it fine. My question is whether it's okay to use a brass 90' piece and connect to the copper pip with a standard nut & ferral and connect to the plastic pipe of the shower unit with a metal nut & ferral onto that...
The wall has been partially replastered to get it flat and repair some damage. Can I just tile straight onto it ..? Or shoudl I PVA or paint it will a 50:50 mix of emulsion?

Well the guy came on monday & fixed it. The line between my house and the cable is fine - A previous engineer thought it may have to be duh up!. Yjis guy put it down to poor connections in a manhole 30m down the road!
So, we'll see hoe long this fix lasts.... what was good is that the line...
The problem is that when the BT man arrives, typically the line is clear. What I need is a direct line to a BT man who, when I have the noise, can come and investigate. Appointment is monday afternoon. So we'll see.

I've had intermittant problems with my phone now for 6 months and am getting fed up with
Toucan and BT for not being able to fix it. They are unable to react quick enough when
I have a problem - 3-4 days later the problem will have gone away again.
The line is fine for 99% of the time...
I've a stone resin shower tray that'll be mounted on a few 2x2's . the instructions refere to using a 3/4' board - would a piece of chipboard be okay or is plywood the way to go? It seems the only ply I can get is 7' by 4'! I only need 800mm square.

What would be the cause/source of a sticky residue in a junction box & socket - it has a green colour when wiped & is very very sticky - looks like it's leeching out of the end of the wires!

Okay - thanks for the help. I switched off all loads & got o/c everywhere except the 0.5 Ohm. So I made that pair a circuit. Now I have one good ring on the right hand side of the house and a bloody mess on the left hand side of the house. The kitchen wiring is ...interesting ... and i'll...
The fuse box is an original MK item from 1970. It looks like all the neutrals are connected together onto one bus-bar.
I don't understand you explanation of the 160 ohm - could you try again please!?
Steve
Okay - more info. Each of the two fuses has two red cores into it - as expected. I unclipped those wires. Lets call them A & B for fuse #1 and C&D for fuse #2.
Now i'd expect minimal resistance 'short' between A&B and between C&D and I'd expect open circuit between all other combination...
In my fusebox I have two 30A fuses- unmarked but I assume ring main circuits. The house is a 1970 3 bedroom ground & top floor. I assume that the power sockets in the house are split 1st floor & ground floor or left of house & right of house - you get the picture ...either way there are two...
Can anyone tell me whether the pattern glass of a double glazed door unit should face outddors or face indoors. I've a new frame with glazed units and the flat glass is facing in - i'd of thought it should face out and the pattern pane face in.

I need to replace an old radiator ~1968, due to excessive rust on the outside. The rad is 18 1/2 " wide (47cm) - The narrowest that I see advertised are 50 cm wide - 50CM is about the distance I have between the conenctions on the two valves that I'll need to mate up the new radiator too...
I need a chain saw - what are pros' & cons of electric vs petrol - I see cons as a cable vs smelly petrol.
Is an electric one going to be man enough to cut thru a 12-18" trunk?

I'm about to build a sot of lean-to / roof affair down the side of the house bridging a 3' pathway between the house and the fench. It will be aboput 15' long. What I'd like to do is use perspex corregated roofing material mounted on a frame. The house would form one 'wall' & the fench the...
Bazza (or anyone !)- how do you take out al of the old nails without pulling up all of the borards to get them out? Looking at the nails in my floorbords, most are 1/16-1/8 " under the surface. Why not just add screws?
