I've got an extension with a flat/slightly pitched roof, with a vinyl covering. There's 2 rooms, 1 has rockwool, the other has an old rigid pink insulation.
On room 1, can I leave the wool in place and add Kingspan below to increase U value? (it should still leave a few cm breathing space...
I've had to lift 3 entire room's worth of floating floor for my renovation- I just wanted to check the attached type of flooring could be sanded? It appears to be 'engineered' boards made from 3 layers. Each layer seems to be real wood, though the top layer is obviously coated. Is it ok to...
Thanks - have pulled up a corner, turns out it's just the pine floorboards underneath. Pity I couldn't tile onto it (I'll need to resheet with ply now) but then I think I'd need to lift the floor for plumbing anyway.
In my new house there's a a tanked wetroom with 2 'runs' on it (2 different drains) we want to change into the living room. The vinyl is on top of marine ply. I'm looking for the easiest and most cost effective way to level it again.
I had itnitially thought tearing out/re-flooring might be...
Ree - I was hoping a good stud/cable detector would eliminate issues there.
Tpt - it's that heavy duty stuff with a sparkle through it you commonly see in hospitals etc, not sure if that's altro.
Thanks Gaz - I think you're right, PVC should do ok in a different colour/finish.
Does the lam add any toughness in itself? I've got kids, and it'll be below the 80mm, so that has to be a consideration
Thanks for the reply Gaz - I was looking for more 'floor to ceiling' look, in a single fixed pane, no openers, colour is flexible, (just don't want standard white upvc).
From what I could find, Alu was the only option for this sizing anyway?
Could anyone give me a rough idea on aluminium window pricing, so I can see if it's even feasible - closest I can find trawling the net is a couple of articles telling you how difficult it is to find pricing online! At this size all I can see is bi-folding.
Looking at 2 (W) 2100 x (H)...
Thanks Rob. If it's terminated at branch point, I'd guess that's likely to be in the hall, so i'd have to lift the hall flooring :|
To save starting a new thread, could anyone advise on a gas plumbing query?
The gas currently comes in at the front of the house and runs solely to the middle...
I'm renovating a bungalow that's on level ground, no crawl space to speak of. We're going to be moving around the config of rooms - the old kitchen/bathroom will now be a living room/bedroom respectively and the old living room/bedroom will become kitchen/bathroom.
In respect to removing the...
I'm currently planning a renovation and the previous owner was disabled - the floor in the room in question has had the sort of industrial non-slip vinyl applied you see in care homes. I'm just wondering if I should bother lifting it or if I can tile straight onto it?
Also, the floor is a...
Had a guy out to quote and he said as ithey were the original walls (with cavities), they would both need twin RSJs - just wanted to confirm that was the most efficient way to approach it?
Not at the moment, but as mentioned the attic's converted, some of the crawl space floored, so only a couple of feet remain accessible around the periphery.
I'd also query the cold draughty eaves, as they'd surely cool the attic room?
Thanks again Tony, that is very helpful.
Just doing a little reading and cost for the SE seems to be around £300 (I'm presuming this won't double for the 2 walls).
Read something else stating some authorities let you put in over spec'd RSJs that wouldn't require SE calculations...would be...
Thanks Tony - as I said, I figured as much but they'd told my wife on 2 separate occasions that we needed to submit architect's drawings along with the BW application, so not sure where to go from here :?
