I have now found out that the new controller should work if I swap the firmware chip (U12). It looks too much of a daunting task for me to do so (I have gone cross eyed just finding the chip). Do you know of if any electronics repair places would do it for me? (Scotland central belt)

I had mine replaced a couple of years ago. Didn't have to get the water board in to do the connection as the mains in the street had been replaced a few years before I had the work done and they had connected into my supply pipe on my side of the stopcock. Had to get the trench inspected though...

Cheer mate. There are no skirtings on the wall just now so would you recommend tiling down to the floor and then putting on skirting boards on top of the tiles or skirtings first and then tile above them?
