    Bad tarmac job?

Had a bit of a Google but couldn't find much info. Basically I built a block paved drive at the front of my house and paid my local council install the drop kerb, which has been completed today while I was out. Just wondering if it's normal for the tarmac to be higher than the existing surface...

    Shed Base...

Just done the same, sand/cement on well compacted earth with some leftover slabs laid on top. I built a base/floor for the shed. Made a 2x4 frame with fencing boards over the top, was going to use ply but it worked out cheaper to use boards. I bought the shed second hand, was only a year old...

    Outside water pipe and tap

I've about 3 meters of 15mm copper pipe exposed across the back of my garage with a stop tap inside the garage. Over winter I just turn the stop tap off inside and open the outside tap to drain most of the remaining water after use, never had a problem. I would probably just fit a isolation...

White marks on black limestone Indian flags/slabs (for wood burner hearth)??

If you are actually intending on using the woodburner, after a few months it will look similar with all the ash that inevitably drops onto it. I know mine does.

    Damp/Condensation Consultant

I recently installed a PIV unit due to similar problems in a house I just purchased. Was fine over the summer but once the temperature dropped we had huge amount of condensation appearing upstairs. The house isn't damp, timed extractors in the bathrooms, washing is dried in a condensing dryer...

    Garage Floor Replacement

I need to replace the floor in my garage due to various defects, cracking etc. The old infill will probably be shale which will need to be removed, how thick does the base and concrete ideally need to be. It's a 5/4.5m detached garage so don't need to satisfy any regs.

Joining 20mm Black Alkathene Pipe underground

That is correct, it wasn't very deep nor where I was expecting it to be coming from to be honest. Ideally I want to bury it again.

Joining 20mm Black Alkathene Pipe underground

I've a feed from the mains to my garage in 20mm black alkathene pipe that feeds my garage. I've managed to dig through the pipe and need to reconnect, but what fittings are suitable for this application.

Fitting a recessed Gas Meter Box

I need to fit a recessed gas meter box, the hole is already there the correct size for the box I have bought, but just has a wooden door/frame. The gas company will be disconnecting my supply and returning the next day to reconnect into the new box. Currently the gas supply comes up the cavity...

Close Board Fencing on slight slope.

I'm putting up a fence 10m run 6ft boards on a slight slope, maybe 1ft drop of the 10m distance. I was going to set the posts vertical and the rails following the contour of the ground (with the boards straight) should I be doing it this way or should I be stepping the fence down in a couple of...

    Removing Lintel - Garage roof.

I've got a detached double garage, used to be a single with another added to the side and partially knocked through. I want to replace the 2x doors are the front with a large single door. I've considered removing the roof totally and replacing all the joists (4.5m span) and reroofing which...

    CU Brand Recommendations

Sounds like Hagar is the brand to go for. It's a replacement board not a full rewire, so just intend to stick with the circuits that are currently there. Assuming nothing untoward is turned up when it's tested anyhow.

    CU Brand Recommendations

I want to get the CU replaced in my house, currently I have an old wylex domino and a newer smaller CU that I assume was fitted to comply with the regs when the previous owners had the kitchen installed. I need 6 ways - Upstairs Ring Downstairs Ring Upstairs lighting Downstairs lighting Cooker...

    Clay gully and hopper repair

If it was me I would add a branch into the new plastic pipe and abandon the old one. It looks like such a simple fix I'm surprised you are not having a go yourself.

Expectations of skimming job (pics inside)

Terrible, quoted for two days at £400 but the wage bill for his guys comes to £600, righto. His attitude is typical of every shady 'tradesman' when caught with their pants down. I would expect to have to do some work around the detail areas (from previous experience) before painting but...

    Copper pipes in Concrete Floor

Bernard - I changed from a boiler of similar vintage to a Baxi DuoTec 40 in my previous house, didn't cost me anything other than yearly servicing @ £50 and never experienced much, if any drop in temp if multiple taps were used.

    Copper pipes in Concrete Floor

Did consider pressure testing the pipework, the problem is I've got a couple of radiators that I want to reposition, so would still have to do some digging.

    Copper pipes in Concrete Floor

I've just bought a house with concrete floors and solid walls, currently the 15mm copper heating pipework is buried within the concrete floor. The current boiler is about 25 years old, I'm going to have it changed for a Combi and do away with all the tanks etc. in the near future. At some point...
