How close to footings can I site inspection chamber?

Thanks, but my issue is around the old, existing foundations.

How close to footings can I site inspection chamber?

With new extension I need to connect soil pipe into existing underground pipe and I'd need a new inspection chamber where it connects (change of direction). I want to minimise the number of bends which would potentially mean that the IC would be within 1metre of the existing footings of the old...

Can I use twinwall pipes for surface water drainage?

Well, I had it lying around, so may as well use it rather than getting 20m or so of 110mm pipe. The twinwall is indeed non-perforated. It's part of my extension and new roof, so I guess they may come out to inspect this. I've dug the trench down to 500mm and was going to lay the pipe on 100mm...

Can I use twinwall pipes for surface water drainage?

I've attached the static drainage up to the cesspit, and it certainly does not retain the water. Eventually i will waterproof it so I can do some harvesting. So can I use twinwall piping?

Can I use twinwall pipes for surface water drainage?

I have some useless old 'soakaway's for all my downpipes - they are all just over 1.5m away from house and do very little to actually disperse the water effectively in this clay soil. My intention is to connect to old (disused and empty) cesspit down the back garden which is approx 20m away. I...

Featheredge cladding - nominal measurements: what can expect out of 22mm thickness?

I asked them about the overlap required but didn't ask them about the finished thickness, and nothing is stated on their website. I'll call them tomorrow and ask if they just have very wide tolerances. In which case I should have ordered 44mm thick in the hope that I end up with 22mm!!!

Featheredge cladding - nominal measurements: what can expect out of 22mm thickness?

F/E simply down to price, and the fact that the nearbye shed is also F/E. The reason I started this thread as I received my order today from the local timber yard - advertised as "Treated Feather Edge 22mm x 150mm ". Yet the stuff is a bit on the skinny side. The first pic is one of the...

Featheredge cladding - nominal measurements: what can expect out of 22mm thickness?

Hi All, Been looking to get something decent that will last on my new pallet shed. So I have opted to go for 150mm with 22mm thickness. This may seem a bit stupid, but what can I expect to actuall get from these nominal measurements. All the suppliers mention their measurements are nominal of...

Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

I'm having a side extension done to the house where the incoming mains is currently located (to the left of the bathroom). I will be a piled raft and cable is likely to be an issue. So having it re-routed via the front into cloakroom seems like an option. @Bernard - thanks for those points...

Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

Hi, more clrification with this drawing Currently meter and fuse box is in hallway cupboard marked as 'x' in drawing with incoming mains within the slab. The fusebox can stay in that location but the servive head and meter can be located in the cloakroom, marked with an 'o'. Incoming...

Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

Thanks Westie. It's not a new build (or a listed build for that matter), but the meter is currently located on the wrong side of the hallway and connecting to that current location would mean taking up the concrete floor. So I was hoping to have the meter moved closer to the front door in a...

Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

Hi, I'm having some work done to the house which means that I may need the mains electric to be re-routed. I keep reading about having to have the meter on the outside of the house. Currently it's inside, in the hallway, which is where I want to keep it. I'm having the exterior rendered etc...

What cost for C35 blinding layer?

Thanks all for your comments. Along the lines of Ronny, spoken to another piling firm and they have stated that they can work from a layer of compacted rubble. That should save me a few pennies. I have plenty of rubble from my block walls and chimney stacks. What kind of figure should I be...

What cost for C35 blinding layer?

How much cheaper is C10? I'm only going by what they have specified and I'm pretty sure they would go for C10 if they could. I'm responsible for getting the blinding layer done so they have no commercial advantage in speccing C35 over C10. Probably speccing for C35 since their piling rig...

What cost for C35 blinding layer?

Hi All, I am having some pile work done (the constructive variety, but still painful financially) and the piling contractor indicates that I need to get a 50mm thick C35 concrete blinding layer prior to them starting with piling with raft. The area to be covered is 5.6 x 11.2m so approx...

16kg demolition hammer ok to break concrete 65cm(26") s

Hi All, Having removed a lean to laundry room, I now have the fun task of removing the concrete slab that has a depth of about 65cm. It measures 2.50m x 3.50m. I'm looking to hire something like this...

Extension: Initial Notice or Full Plans Application?

Local council is well known to be difficult and not very helpful if they see issues with some aspect ("no that can't be done - go away and sort it"). Hopefully private inspector is more helpful. Plan drawer is my architect and I think any issues are included in his fixed cost ("submitting...

Extension: Initial Notice or Full Plans Application?

Okay, thanks to you both. It sounds as though I am okay then if I wish to go with the full plans application with my chosen inspector or BCB rather than my local authority. Indeed, a lot of the info on the interweb is either out of date or only contains half of the info. So the process for a...
