    Mitre Saw Recommendation Please

The main reason I want the mitre saw is that I've got some funny angles to cut (bay windows etc) and it would just be a lot easier using a mitre saw.

    Mitre Saw Recommendation Please

Thanks Joe. The one way tilt is a real limiting factor.... Presumably the clamp gets in the way of the motor on the right hand side? I have same problem with my el cheapo Challenge saw..... That rules out the Rage then.... I might just end up hiring one at this rate...

    Mitre Saw Recommendation Please

Thanks everyone. What are people's opinions on Evolution Rage? I've found lots of favourable reviews and they seem to represent very good value for money for an "enthusiastic DIYer" like myself....

Yes - definitely need a slider. That's a bit out of my price range though.... Any others you can recommend?

    Mitre Saw Recommendation Please

Hi, I'm at the end of the my tether with a cheapo Argos Challenge compound mitre saw I bought a few years ago when I was in a pickle and there was nowhere else open....Rubbish mitres, rough cuts and genuinely dangerous movement... The job I'm on with at the moment is skirtings and picture...

    Hanging Picture Rail

We're 70% through renovating our 1920's semi and the latest room to be done is the living room. Like most properties this age, the house had picture rails throughout. Also, like most properties this age, they've been removed over the years and everytime we've stripped the wall paper, there's...

    New front door needs painting

I'm in exactly the same predicament as the OP. I've had a fantastic new hardwood door and frame installed. Yes, wrong time of the year, but that's how it goes sometime. The frame and door were both primed at the workshop. My intention was to paint it immediately but the weather has not been...

    painting new plaster

I had this exact problem and a decorator friend advised the plaster had been "over polished".

    Gloss Paint Recommendation

I've got a few jobs coming up that require a white gloss finish. Some internal skirting/architrave and an external wooden door frame. I've had it with "own brand" paints and I'm happy to spend the extra on a good "trade" quality paint. Any recommendations for a solution for both jobs? I've...

    Risco or Texecom w/Ricochet?

Thanks for that. Yes, I have run the wire for the bell box already and that's ready to go.. Fully appreciate the premiun for having someone who does the job all day long and I would happily pay that for something that I couldn't have a go at myself - eg plastering!! :) Times are tight...

    Risco or Texecom w/Ricochet?

Hi, I'm pondering over which alarm system I should have for my house. I'm not really after anything fancy but, ideally, it should be a hybrid system as some zones are very difficult to get wires to. I had my heart set on a Texecom 24/48 with the wireless add-on card. Seems to do...

Socket Wall Box - Thermaline Plasterboard

I'm all for building control and I understand why we have regulations, but seriously, getting building regs involved for putting an 8 foot sheet of insulated plasterboard in my house seems ridiculous. Is cavity wall insulation notifiable? What about if I top up my loft insulation?

Socket Wall Box - Thermaline Plasterboard

Hmmm - I was of the understanding that the total thickness was 40mm....

Socket Wall Box - Thermaline Plasterboard

I'll need to free them up to get the length.... It's not going to be difficult (ha ha - I'll regret saying that!!), so I'll make the call when I rip it out tonight... Cheers!

Socket Wall Box - Thermaline Plasterboard

Fair enough... I'm thinking I will mount a 47mm steel box on the existing plastered wall now and they can cut the thermaline board to fit around it (the board is 40mm so I figure 7mm for dot and dab should be pretty close). Is it OK just to leave the cables clipped to the wall or do they need...

Socket Wall Box - Thermaline Plasterboard

I have an existing double socket on a solid wall. I'm having 40mm insulation backed Thermaline board fitted on this wall next week. Question is, how do I handle the socket? There's enough slack on the cables to allow it to be fitted to the new board, but I'm not sure if I can just fit a 47mm...

    Help With Alarm Spec Please

Actually, just to clarify as I think I'm misunderstaning... Does each sensor constitute a zone???

    Help With Alarm Spec Please

Thanks. The last time I fitted one, all sensors were end of line. Is this the best way to do it? Or is it worth serially connecting multiple sensors in a zone?

    Help With Alarm Spec Please

Hi, I'm planning on installing a Texecom alarm system in my house ASAP. I've already pulled quite a bit of the cable and I've got a fused spur ready for the panel. I've been on to Alert's website and added a few bits that I need. Basically, I'm wondering if there's anything I'm missing...
