    Check my quote please?

Don't mess about to save £20, sounds good to me. If you've got him from advertising and he's over 50 and been at it for years, odds are you'll get a sound job. IMO. ...or do it yourself? Not that hard if you've got a weekend to throw at it.

Knotting solution or two in one Primer/knotting soln?

Is that an egg pun based way of telling me the paint is no good?

What is this "mesh" around my ceiling?

I'd get a quote or two for having it skimmed by a pro myself, if you can't afford it, live with it and save up. If you do the edges yourself it'll be a miracle if it doesn't look worse when you've done given the artex you're working up to. If you skim the whole ceiling you're either a natural...

Knotting solution or two in one Primer/knotting soln?

Bugger. :( Guess who whacked the Ronseal on this afternoon? Hmm. Any advice on what to do next? I've got 25m of skirting and 3 door surrounds (all new wood and fairly cheap by the looks of it) with a coat of this stuff on. I'm after a white eggshell finish, so what would you guys use...

Knotting solution or two in one Primer/knotting soln?

Morning all, I'll be painting some new skirting board this afternoon, and I've got some Ronseal primer/knotting solution but I'm a bit dubious as to whether I should have bought a knotting solution and separate primer... ...any opinions?

    Oak floor query

Hi all. We've done a garage conversion. Concrete garage floor has had a waterproof membrane laid, a load of joists with insulation between, then 22mm chipboard floorboards on top. I fancy solid oak floor, but I'm picking up mixed messages and am confused! 1) I'm told that I can lay...

Light wiring query - remove a light from a circuit.

Maybe I'm wrong about them being halogens? Little flat bulbs recessed into the ceiling. There are only two wires into the ballast/transformer or whatever it is. One red, one black. I've temporarily disconnected these and wrapped them in insulating tape just for tonight. I'll get a...

Light wiring query - remove a light from a circuit.

Afternoon all. I've got 6 halogen lights in my kitchen ceiling on a single switch. I'm banging in a floor to ceiling cupboard which will half cover one of the lights so obviously I'm taking it out. How do I safely leave the wiring? I've got a twin (black and red) cable going into a...

    Tee off incoming supply...

Hello all, the missus has bought an American fridge freezer, which need connecting to a water supply. Conveniently situated the other side of the kitchen wall to where the fridge needs to go is the mains inlet/meter to the house. I was thinking that I could tee off the incoming pipe (above...

    Ovens again, sorry...

Thanks. I've found it's 16amp minimum fuse, 3860w. So it seems I need to have the 45a rated connection EFL recommended and all else should be good to go. Thanks again all.

    Ovens again, sorry...

Thanks. The ovens are German, so it's possible. If I do need 16amp supply - how do I go about that? Unfortunately I can't download the manual for some reason to check.

    Ovens again, sorry...

I currently have a double oven, which is going to be scrapped. I'm replacing this with two single ovens. They're just domestic ovens, but I'm told they want 16amp supply. I assume the switch I've got is 45amp if that's standard, but I'll check. Thanks for your input Eric.

Could be, maybe I got the wrong idea. Thanks very much for your help.

    Ovens again, sorry...

So I use: http://www.alertelectrical.com/prod/1022/click-45a-easyfit-dual-appliance-outlet-plate or similar... and I don't need to do owt else? The 45amp bit came from the retailer where I found the ovens. I didn't understand that myself, but I thought it must be some arcane electricians...

    Ovens again, sorry...

...I can't find what I need in the previous posts. I'm planning to replace my existing double oven with two single ovens. I don't know if I'm going to need re-wiring to cope or what other work I'm going to need to have done. The incoming box in the garage has a 32amp fuse (RCD?) for the...

    C/H issues....

Morning all, two central heating issues... 1) Radiator in the spare bedroom has got an inch of warmth left at the bottom and I can't bleed it because the valve has been scalped - so the key just spins. I'd be much obliged if some one could tell me what I need to do in order to isolate this...

    Bend mild steel pipe?

I'm in Derby thanks for the offer Symptoms...pretty central. But I'll probably have a pop with some 22mm pipe if I can find some at 18swg or thinner. Time for a Google search.. unless anyone knows where I can source some...?? Made up with all you great advice chaps - thanks again.

    Bend mild steel pipe?

Thanks for your advice all. I reckon it's back to the drawing board though, as it sounds like I'll need to use a 22mm pipe or find a 3/4" former. It's got to be a cleanish bend as it'll bug the heck out of me otherwise. Edit: I clearly messed up my original question - I don't have a...

    Bend mild steel pipe?

I've bought nowt yet. I already own a plumbers hand held pipe bender, with about 2ft arms on it. If I can't bend the steel, I'll go back to the drawing board and find plan B. Rather not waste the money on the steel if I can help it though.

    Bend mild steel pipe?

Hello all - bit of advice would be gratefully recieved... I need to bend a 3/4" mild steel pipe (18 swg) to about a 45 degree angle. I've got a plumbers pipe bending kit with a 3/4" former - will this do the job or am I likely to struggle to bend the steel or deform the aluminium former...
