    Wet floor in doorway cavity

Thanks for the reply Woody. Sorry if I sound think (probably because I am) but what I'm confused about is that to my mind that would mean the inner skin would have to be lower, at least near the door. I've watched a few videos of extension time lapses and door installations and they all seem to...

    Wet floor in doorway cavity

Thanks, going through now but not easy for a novice like me to understand it all; my brain is almost fried already from this bloody build, last thing I need. I think I've addressed some of this in my last quoted post; as it was do you know if this would fail regs?

    Wet floor in doorway cavity

Okay thanks for the help so far - please bare with me - its very much appreciated. Yes it was fitted to the outer leaf (I was't even asked or would have thought about it). I've cut away a little of the plasterboard (can cover with skirting later) to try and see if the glazier used a vertical...

    Wet floor in doorway cavity

Hi all - I've had a kitchen extension finished by a local builder, who has passed it over to me to do the finishing (paint and tile). However the concrete in front of the bifold doors in the cavity will not dry and I'm not sure whether to be concerned or not. I have the glazier who fit the door...

Downlight lumens - not enough or too much?

I didn't make the tool, but it seems the calculation is the square meterage (14) x 250 to give you the lumens (so 3500). The electricians who did first fix said 8 would be fine, which is why it's 8! But they've asked me to sort getting the lights as they're on other jobs at the moment and hard...

Downlight lumens - not enough or too much?

Hi all - I'm adding integrated downlights to a new kitchen extension which is 4m x 3.5m with a 2.5m ceiling, and am a little confused as I've previously only used ones with replaceable bulbs. I see the benefits of integrated, but I'm concerned I lose the ability to control brightness and colour...

Hi all - Regular DIY-er here, looking for a new mitre saw. Wanting to spend around the £100-£150 m

Hi all - Regular DIY-er here, looking for a new mitre saw. Wanting to spend around the £100-£150 mark and had planned to get this erbauer saw, but it's out of stock almost anywhere and would require me to drive an hour to get it. I'd do it if I needed, but Toolstation have this Einhell saw and...

Adding extra light - what are the limits to DIY?

Thanks - I normally use the old round junction boxes with screws but will look at maintenance free - the wagoboxes seem popular

Adding extra light - what are the limits to DIY?

I have a small utility area that has a single ceiling light. I want to turn this into a spot (currently a pendant) and add a second spot off it, keeping original switch. I have a builder here who wants to plaster the ceiling and my current electrician is out of action for the moment. Does anyone...

Charged extra for a flat roof

Cheers, yeah the architect got this really wrong - there's an argument that the builder should have noticed but oh well. He just hadn't accounted for the upstairs windows for the roof pitch and wasn't even close - the pitch of the roof ended up being about 6 degrees!

Charged extra for a flat roof

Thanks for reply. It's EPDM, and yes it includes a flat roof window but the pitched roof was meant to have 2 velux windows. He also had to add ventilation around the window as the extension is in an L (two existing walls) and the building inspector was worried the air couldn't pass through...

Charged extra for a flat roof

Hi all - I've got an extension nearing it's end that's being built by a local builder. The original plans had a pitched roof, but after realising the architect had not accounted for the right pitch roof actually fitting below the upstairs window, we had no option than to go for a flat roof. At...

    Ventilation around flat roof window

I'm overseeing a single tory flat roof kitchen extension that uses two existing walls that are part of a 2 story existing home. Because of the existing walls our building inspector has told us there isn't sufficient air flow and we need to add ventilation around the roof window. (It does seem a...

Exterior thermalite blocks causing vent problems

Cavity by Dylan T posted 1 Dec 2020 at 1:32 PMHi all - Hoping to bounce a bit of a dilemma off you kindle people and perhaps get some fresh perspective. We're currently putting in a flat roof for my kitchen extension and are cutting the wall for the trays. However the previous builders have...

    Exterior gas pipe price?!

Hi all - I've had a plumber over who I needed to move a gas pipe for me due to a relocated gas meter. The gas pipe needs to be run outside alone the perimeter of the house for about 7 meters very low and then i'll eventually tile up and over it. Due to potential corrosion he said he'd need to...
