    Ethernet cabling

Thanks. Is the wiring type/quality ok? I am going to run to wires from G/Floor tel/comms cupboard to the loft to allow me to drop down into any of the top floor rooms at a later date.

    Ethernet cabling

My refurb is well underway and the builder shave started closing up the plasterboard. I am concerned I don't have sufficient ethernet cabling and might add some over the weekend. Would this be suitable? https://www.screwfix.com/p/nexans-cat-5e-f-utp-ethernet-cable-100m-gry/8558T? Any tips on...

    Combining PD and planning application.

Elevations can be tricky to judge. Do you have a plan showing original & added to date (kitchen extension)? Why do you want to combine them rather than just submit 1 planning application? On first look your strategy is unlikely to be beneficial; this strategy could be used where you believe...

    Ensuite floor isn't flat!

Our ensuite floor slopes; the ply has been put down and we have now found out that the floor slopes by approx 30mm across 2.5m. We intend to have the room tiled with 1200mm x 300mm x 10mm porcelain tiles. - Is this much of an issue? - Will it be noticeable to the eye? - How much of can be...

    Pre-Wiring for future alarm

The first fix install is starting next week; my builder has priced for 5 zones/PIRs. - Do the attached seem sensible? - Should I also add the upstairs landing? - Are any of these unnecessary / could be swapped out? Thanks, Rich

How best to pack out a wall

£400... The plans show the existing wall with a thickness that matches the new wall. The new walls have been built 300mm with a 100mm cavity for insulation/building standards. The builder didn't price to pack out the 275mm wall to 300mm to match the new wall. Therefore I might have a go at...

How best to pack out a wall

The builder likes a variation. He can’t anticipate everything; so priced to the spec. This wasn’t on the plans/spec so is a variation... I am a low grade DIYer. What is likely to be the easiest way of packing. Batten & plasterboard?

How best to pack out a wall

It is an external wall; the builder was planning on plastering the remaining 4m wall. As this is setback by 20mm he can't skim straight over the top of this so wants to charge me to pack/plaster. Would it be a problem for me to pack out with timber, and then plasterboard up to / just past the...

    Utility Room fan

Thanks. Defo getting an extractor. Just can't decide on which is the lessor of of 2 evils. 1. On with light. Must have light on, but unlikely to be left on by accident... 2. Independent. But might forget to turn it off...

    Utility Room fan

On second thoughts; why does a utility room need an extractor? is this common/typical?

What happens if one needs ventilation during the day? i.e. clothes on radiator, etc I guess you can switch the light on?

How best to pack out a wall

I have an alignment difference where my extension (100mm cavity) meets the original house (approx 75mm cavity). My builder is complaining that the plans didn't have any difference and is looking at a variation$. How is this best to pack this out? Is there an issue with leaving it? (it will be...

    Utility Room fan

How are Utility Room fans usually wired? Fused spur so require an on/off switch? Or connected to lights so come may not come on in the day when lights not needed? Thanks!

    Kitchen Extractor Size

Are there any regs on kitchen extractor size? I am planning to get a 110cm range and to fit a canopy hood extractor. Does does the extractor have to be a certain size ~ can a 60cm hood be mounted centrally? It will be hidden by the canopy? Thanks.

    Bay Windows Structural Post

I have ordered timber casement windows (Engineered European Redwood) for a square bay window; these come with corner posts that will be bearing the weight of the flat bay roof. The builder is requesting a specification was 97mm x 97mm C16 timber posts. The window installer tells me the 90mm...

    50% uplift rules

Can you not do this as PD? Do you have a set of rough plans showing original and extensions? Greenbelt can be tricky; and 50% is higher than some LBCs. My LBC wanted 35% max uplift. But using a combination of PD and full plans I have managed to get 75%+
