    Patching external render

Thanks for the video Crystalclear, interesting but luckily way way more than I need to get done! Still hoping for suggestions for (cheap or small quantities) suitable pva-type products....?

    Patching external render

Hi, hoping for some advice please. A while ago a window was fitted to front of house which unfortunately caused a few palm-sized areas where the render was damaged. The fitters did fill them with some sort of mix, not a great job in my opinion, though to be fair I guess not their speciality...

    £29 HDMI cable from Currys?

Take it back, swap it for a £29 USB printer cable instead - your printouts will be sharper, the colours brighter.... Can't believe Currys et Al still get away with this. It's a digital signal, the 1's and 0's either get through or they don't. Echoing the comments above, as you've found for...

    Mounting ideas...

Hi, Looking for ideas on wall mounting a couple of computer related items, one a NAS device and the other an external hard disk drive - see photo. Both items are ok to operate vertically, and I'm trying to come up with the best way to securely support them and not cause either any damage but...

    Wide gap magnetic contact

It's all plastic, but no chance of drilling for either concealed or surface contacts at the present time. I agree screwing them on would offer more options but that would involves holes....! The only thing I can think of trying are the 'wide gap' contacts. That one I linked to above doesn't...

    Wide gap magnetic contact

Why sticking them on? It's a new door (at a friends house, not mine) and so no screws allowed at this time. Perhaps a few months down the line when the 'newness' has worn off but not for now... Why the gap? I know a photo would help here, perhaps next time I'm at their house - but basically...

    Wide gap magnetic contact

Anyone know of a supplier for magnetic contact which will operate with a wide gap (ideally >30mm)? To be mounted on a upvc door, must be white, probably using adhesive or tape (no screws, risk of falling off accepted!) I've spotted the Honeywell Ademco 7940WH which looks ideal - but no UK...

Is the Visonic PowerMax series one way?

The PowerMax is 1 way, PowerMaster is 2 way Looking at your other thread, probably a bit late now but I'm sure you could get all the PowerMaster kit you need within budget. I've fitted one as DIY and happy with it, feel free to send me a PM if you want further details.

Etherley and telephone in same cat 6 patch cable.

So the telephone cable AND the Cat6 cable currently run into the same wall plate? Is it 'live'? If not where does the other end of that cable go? If it is (or can be made) 'live', don't you just need a modular face plate with 1 x Cat6 outlet and 1 x telephone outlet? Or am I missing something...?

Visonic Smoke/Heat Detectors - experts look in!

One for the Visonic experts if any out there.... My 'pre purchase' question relates to the SMD427 PG2 Smoke & Heat detector but presumably also applies to the other option(s) they do. Do you know if it's possible to configure this system so that when the detector triggers, the smoke alarm...

    Repairing a cracked brick?

Thanks woody, appreciate the advice, looks like thats the way forward then!

    Repairing a cracked brick?

LOL, the universal magic bullet ! Thanks, yes I guess that would indeed seal it up. Although I'm not particularly worried about the structural strength - the wall doesn't look like its going anywhere anytime soon - but if I'm going to the trouble of squirting silicone, just wondered if there...

    Repairing a cracked brick?

Hi, There is a narrow single layer brick wall at the rear of our garage between the adjoining property and the door to the garden. On the bottom course there is a brick which looks to be cracked all or most of the way through (inside wall is covered but I can poke a thin wire in at least 3 in...

    Mystery connection

Thanks again John. One on the back burner (so to speak) at least for now. It may be we keep the status quo until a more thorough 'upgrade' of the kitchen is on the cards, at which point I think the cooker might be relocated so definitely time for an electrician. But if not at least I...

    Mystery connection

Great, thanks both. Its been like it for many a year with no issues so with the 'improvement' my mind is at ease. Whilst I'm here then... part 2 of 'mystery connections'... We have a gas cooker. It does plug in for the ignition though to a standard socket behind the cooker. Ideally...

    Mystery connection

Yes - thats why I reduced it to a 20A MCB as I thought/hoped that would improve the situation.

    Mystery connection

LOL, thanks John, I'll try to explain a little better...! There is a double socket (actually thinking about it with a spur off it to yet another double socket) but I cannot find where it connects into the radial. When everything else was disconnected from the 'socket end' of the 4mm cable...

    Mystery connection

Back again for more advice & opinions on electrical matters! Hope I get my terminology correct in what follows.... After recently sorting out the outside socket thanks to previous help on here, I'd become aware of 2 x T&E cables leaving a 32A MCB in the CU dedicated to the garage circuit...
