    Bathroom loft extractor fan

Thanks for that, good idea on fall of vent. Also like the lights idea but will refrain from highlighting the toilet in this instance :)

    Bathroom loft extractor fan

Have though of an alternative to putting the duct in the void. As much as I don't like boxing things in I could probably make this look like a shelf for TP etc. I have shown the fan unit about 400mm (shown in the green box) from the shower recess but this could go closer to the outside wall...

Idiot light to know when switch is on, other side of a door.

Am planning a strip light in a storage space which will have a hatch from the main living area. I want to put the switch on the same side as the light ie not in the main living area. What I'd like to do is have a light come on which indicates the light/switch is on as it would be easy to forget...

    Bathroom loft extractor fan

Thanks for that. Might be struggling to find a fan that will fit in the void but will keep that section in mind. Anyone know if shoving this in the 50mm air gap is against building regs?

    Bathroom loft extractor fan

Hi All, Am planning the bathroom in a loft conversion. No insulation in yet so have full acces to the rafters. Would like to put an extractor fan above the shower which will be furthest from the window and on the opposite side of the wall from the door. I would duct it the eave/fascia area...

Using wall lights only in a loft (ie no ceiling lights)

Thanks guys. LED hut say if the roof isn't designed for recessed lights then don't use them, go for surface mounted. I liked the slimline ones but can't seem to find nice surface mounted ones.

Using wall lights only in a loft (ie no ceiling lights)

Great, thanks for that, sounds interesting. Do you have any names or a link? Presumably there shouldn't be any insulation above the luminaire?

Using wall lights only in a loft (ie no ceiling lights)

I have clean slate in a mid terrace Victorian loft conversion. Originally I wanted to put in recessed down lights but have since discovered it's not recommended for a cold flat roof with Celotex. I'm considering wall lights only. Has anyone done this or have any examples? The finished ceiling...

    Radiator sizing in loft conversion

Hi all. Am sizing a single radiator for a loft conversion with dormer. Have calculated volume in cu ft, multiplied x 4 and added 10% to give me btu's. The conversion will have a bathroom and a wall for the new stairs. Do I subtract both of these volumes from the main volume in calculating...

Advice on location of smoke and heat detectors

Then I shall. I was hoping for an unbiased opinion based on someone's experience. Asking my BCO may lead to 'you need x number here there and everywhere, here's the contact details for someone that comes highly recommended' (and of course we'll take our cut).

Advice on location of smoke and heat detectors

Yes and yes. A compliance certificate will be issued. I appreciate your concern. Can anyone offer any advice on locations?

Advice on location of smoke and heat detectors

Hi All, In planning for a loft conversion I'm putting in an interlinked and mains powered fire detection system. I'm going to run all the wires myself and have an electrician wire up, test etc. I can't find definitive information on how many are required and where. The plan is to use as many...

    Stud wall FD30 with glazing

Thanks for the reply. If I used Georgian wired glass is there a minimum thickness, maximum size and do I need an intumescent seal? Is there a framing requirement? I can't find much information on the subject.

    Stud wall FD30 with glazing

Hi all. Am closing in the ground floor stairs with a stud wall as part of a loft conversion. The wall will be 63mm CLS with 12.5mm PB, skimmed. There will also be a doorway. We will lose some light with the wall so was wondering if glass was acceptable and if so what the requirements are. Many...

Bathroom ceiling insulation advice - flat roof

Hi all, Am doing some work in the bathroom and decided to insulate the ceiling whilst I'm at it. It's downstairs in a Victorian mid terrace and has a flat roof. Pulled part of it down today and even with the milder temperatures, there was definitely cooler air coming through. Height...
