Hi, Originally posted on Decorating and Painting without realising there was a Tiling section  I want to tile on both sides of a corner in the kitchen behind the top of my freestanding cooker. The area is 1 square meter. The main area have a thick coat of eggshell paint...

    Cooker switch above gas cooker

Hi, I'm having a new gas cooker installed, replacing the old gas cooker. I've got a 2 gang cooker switch and plug socket, along with a 5 amp switched FCU (for the extractor fan) located 450mm on the back wall above the cooker and if I've read it correctly, that's no longer allowed (?). I...

    Tiling onto Eggshell paint

I've tried rubbing down a small area with medium sand paper. The eggshell paint is very thick. The shine eventually comes off, it's very tough, and there is another coat (white) underneath which still makes it moisture proof. :?

Extractor fan - No Earth connection

Hi, I've got an extractor fan which quotes it is double insulated and does not require an earth connection (without any further instructions on that). The Mains I want to connect it to is a Twin and Earth cable, but there is nowhere in the appliance I can connect the Earth to. If I were to...

    Tiling onto Eggshell paint

Hi, I want to tile on both sides of a corner in the kitchen behind the top of my freestanding cooker. The area is 1 square meter. The main area have a thick coat of eggshell paint which I know would not absorb any moisture from the adhesive. Is the setting process done by hydraulic action...

    Gas cooker installation

Hi, If a Gas Safe registered plumber reads this, I would be grateful for an answer please. I need to buy a new gas cooker. My concern is what's behind the cooker, which could possibly prevent the engineer from the large company I will be buying from, to refuse installation. So far, I...

    Switch behind cooker

Since I have a concrete floor, central heating and hot water pipes run behind the cooker. If the cable flex from the cooker touches those pipes, should I be concerned?

    Switch behind cooker

There is another socket on the other side but that would mean the extension lead would need to pass behind the cupboards where the sink is; there was a water leak in the past though. But that's a possibility to do that. If the Cooker Switch was not used, could it remain there though? I know this...

    Switch behind cooker

The installer will provide a flexible hose. Does it mean I could let the cable flex run behind from the top of the cooker to the socket above it, without having a splashback? The new cooker does not have a lid. The plug is just to allow the gas igniter and the oven light to work.

    Switch behind cooker

Hi, I need to replace an old cooker. There is a hard wired switch behind the cooker and the cable seems to be inside a metal conduit buried within the plaster. I could not pull the cooker to take a proper picture since it is a gas appliance. There is an Unswitched FCU and a 2 gang Cooker...

    Outdoor junction box

The much awaited pictures at last!!! The first 2 pics are from inside. Whoever originally drilled the whole through the plaster all the way into the brickwork must not have been aware that a metal conduit can run immediately next to a flush box, and certainly did not use a metal/wire detector...
