Buying a Vice to fit existing mount bolts

hi all, in my garage a previous owner installed a nice wooden workbench and left mounting bolts for a vice - which I'd like to get. having never even looked into buying one before I'm wondering how difficult it will be finding one to fit the existing mount bolts - or is there a standard...

    No Power to Elec Shower

many thanks for the quick reply! yes! I forgot there was a trip in the supply (early morning brain!). which had indeed tripped. I tried a reset and the pull switch light came on briefly but then tripped out again. so it looks like I need to get someone in to check the shower unit then...

    No Power to Elec Shower

hello, when I went to get in the shower this morning, the water didn't heat up. there is a pull string switch in the bathroom that turns the power on to the shower - this has a light on it but it did not come on when turned on. I've tried changing the 30A fuse in the consumer unit but...

heating a room without CH pipes

my electric box is by the front door so I can get a new wire from there. would an electric heater be hideously uneconomical?

heating a room without CH pipes

the point I was trying to make above was that my CH pipes are not availble where I want the heater/rad to go; they are somewhere under the floor of the room above. it seems like alot of effort to divert them downstairs just to heat a single radiator?

heating a room without CH pipes

hi, I live upstairs in a converted semi and have a small lobby at the bottom of the stairs by the front door. this area gets quite cold as there is no heating down there (my CH system is all upstairs). I thought about fitting a electric heater but are there any other options? thanks.

Stoves Electric Oven Cutting Out (Thermostat?)

hi all, I've had a Stoves Q600EM Electric Oven for about 6 years and for a while it's been playing up. it seems to function fine, get to temperature and cook food normally, but after about 20 minutes it completely cuts out and will not turn back on again for a further 10 mins or so. I...

Chimney - Blocking Off / Sweeping

hi, hope I got the right section for this. I'm renovating the back room where there is an existing fireplace. the hearth has been covered by a wooden panel since before I moved in. what I want to do is open up the fireplace so I can put an electric stove-type appliance in the hearth and...

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

hiya, the boiler is a Stelrad WRS 450, but this is not in the loft. just pipes and hot + cold water tanks up there so I s'pose the frost stat is to protect them...

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

cheers for the extra options :) but given that there is already a frost stat in the loft, isn't it going to be much cheaper and easier just to fit the pipe stat to complement it? I'm not really looking for the perfect solution to protecting the pipes, just to prevent the boiler lighting...

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

cool, I'll get the pipe stat ordered. having not messed about with CH wiring before, I'm not sure what to expect. do I need to break into one of the wires from the existing frost stat or do I just run an extension from it? or something else? is there any special wire I need to use or...

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

well, yes there are tanks in the loft. but since there is insulation down and all the pipes are lagged the ambient air temp in the loft doesn't really change much even if the flat below is warm. that's the problem really - when it is cold the frost stat turns on the heating but never gets...

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

cheers for all the help guys, deffo understand this better now :) for the pipe stat, I see that Honeywell have low/high limit versions. low = 2 - 40c high = 50 - 95c which would be the correct one to get?

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

I think I'm confusing myself lol. frost stats, pipe stats and normal room thermostats are all essentially the same aren't they? they are just switches that are "on" when the detected temp is below the preset temp. so yes, I understand now that it's easier to just wire in the extra pipe...

Moving Frost Stat in the Loft

ahhhhhhh  I thought the pipe stat was a frost stat... so from what you are saying it is a normal thermostat that acts as an override to the frost stat when the pipes reach a certain temp. so the existing frost stat would detect that is was too cold and fire the boiler. this would...
