    Replacing floor to ceiling tiles...

Cheers everyone. Just ordered an SDS with chisel action from Screwfix and will make short work of flattening the walls out then dot and dab as suggested.

    Replacing floor to ceiling tiles...

Sand down the tiles?!?! Or sand down the adhesive? I assume you mean the later? Surely that'd take an age, make a huge mess and cost about £1k in sandpaper pads.... I can't believe any builder would spend time and effort doing that. Sorry if i've misunderstood your suggestion. Hopefully this...

    Replacing floor to ceiling tiles...

Hi folks, I've been removing the floor to ceiling tiling in a small utility area in my house. Now i'm left with rough walls that I want to get ready for painting. Is the best option to dot and dab over the walls as they stand? Or do I need to take it back to brick? Of is there a better way? Thanks

    Replace bathroom led lamp

Hi folks, an led bulb has gone in my bathroom but in pulling it out of the ceiling it seems to be a complete unit. Can anyone direct me on a replacement for one of these? Does the whole unit get replaced because I can't figure out how to access the bulb inside if not. And I can see how to...

    Mount TV - large cavity

Great tip, cheers. Was only thinking earlier that i'm not looking forward to drilling that old stone, its bloody hard.... so was planning to start small and work up. But i'll ensure to change the mode as I get to the full 10mm too. Cheers

    Mount TV - large cavity

Yes thats similar to the bracket. Would the fixing be any better if I got longer plugs to suit the length of the screw? i.e. 120mm plug and 120mm screw?

    Mount TV - large cavity

Hi rsgaz, Sorry, you lost me a bit. If I was to use 50mm plugs, are you saying I should push the plugs straight through the plasterboard and dots, and fully into the solid wall at the back? So essentially all 50mm of the plug is in the solid wall and then the screws hang out of the plug by 70mm...

    Mount TV - large cavity

Hi folks, Last year I had some work done on my chimney breast to convert it from the old stone work, to a new flat and painted one (pics below). I now want to mount my 55" TV on there but i'm conscious of the weight of it and don't want to just fix into the plasterboard. (should have thought...

    Unidentified electrical (?) fitting....

Thanks guys, the wires go under the floor. Think I'll pluck up the courage to go under into the crawl spaces next week and try to trace the wires back...

    Unidentified electrical (?) fitting....

Hi guys, this may be in the wrong section by virtue of the fact I haven't got a clue what I'm looking at, but seemed the best place to start... I have these unidentified little white boxes ( for want of a better term) in my house with wires going to them, but I've no idea what they are. Anyone...

    Removing sink pipework

No need to get over sensitive guys, as I said in the OP, just wanted to make sure I get a proper job, which isn't the same as telling him how to do it.... :D If capping without removing the T is legit then all good. Cheers for everyone's input (y)

    Removing sink pipework

Thanks guys. Would leaving even a small dead leg not create a potential legionella issue? I read somewhere not to leave more than 1.5x the diameter of the pipe as a dead leg....?

    Removing sink pipework

Hi folks, I want to remove a small sink from a bedroom in our house. The pipes leading off to the right of the attached picture are the water supplies for the sink so obviously will need them capping off. I understand this isn't a job for a DIYer so plan to get a plumber in but want to make...

Finding matching wood (skirting and floorboards)

Hi folks, I'm slowly working through my 1930s house and modernising it and whilst a confident DIYer, i'm struggling to match wood for the skirting and floorboards so wondered if anyone on here can help me track them down please? NB: the requirement is for a small patch in both cases so ripping...

Buying a house - ancient (dodgy?) boiler

The information has only come to light today, i'm not sure how you can suggest I have decided to proceed without requesting a reduction of £1000 when the ink is still wet on the e-mail that gave me the information.... I answered that question in my very first reply after the question was...

Buying a house - ancient (dodgy?) boiler

I clearly said a) that I didn't know for certain and 10 years was a guess and b) that my 10 years was an average. So the same way I wouldn't expect my car to last too much past 100,000 miles, there are plenty of examples of cars that go far beyond that. So just because a boiler is over 10 years...

Buying a house - ancient (dodgy?) boiler

No, which is why I said "(the vendor) isn't on an internet forum but that still doesn't mean that I would automatically believe him."

Buying a house - ancient (dodgy?) boiler

Thanks for the reply. The issue is that the vendor isn't happy for the boiler to be serviced before exchange in case the boiler is condemned and the are left with no heating. But obviously I don't want to exchange without knowing exactly what i'm letting myself in for so thought I would get the...

Buying a house - ancient (dodgy?) boiler

Thanks for your reply. Answers below. To summarize; - you've negotiated the price around replacing the boiler. - PARTIALLY CORRECT - We negotiated the price which included an element of "the boiler is old and may need replacing in the near future..... e.g. I (perhaps naively) expect a boiler...

Buying a house - ancient (dodgy?) boiler

Hi folks, We are currently purchasing a house and when we viewed we noticed that the boiler looked ancient. We eventually agreed a price and have got down the line, surveys done etc... Anyway we found from the survey that the vendor a) doesn't know when the boiler was installed and b) has...
