    Shower pump problem

The rainfall overhead thing drips for a while after switching it off. The flow is close to non existent when the pump isn't running. It didn't work again this morning so I bled the pipes in the loft and a very small amount of air came out. The shower still wouldn't operate so I opened the...

    Shower pump problem

I've bled them a few times and always till jets of water come out of the bleed nipples. I'd have thought though that once the shower was working that any air would be pushed out through the shower head and I wouldn't have to bleed it again. My previous valve didn't need any bleeding which was...

    Shower pump problem

Hi all. I've got a problem with a shower that is powered by a salamander ct50 pump. A bar mixer valve that we'd used for years stopped working properly and gave one temperature regardless of where the temp was set to. I bought a new mixer, a one with an overhead rainfall spray, I fitted it and...

Maybe if we just knock that wall down.

You're doing a nice job of that Benway and I'm glad I came across your thread. For the last 3 or so years I've been wanting to convert my conservatory into an orangery but haven't found the time as yet. You've inspired me to get it done now and some of your roof detail is very useful. Can I ask...

    Fixing plasterboard

It's a stud wall so I can't knock patches out to get more depth for the adhesive. For the same reason I can't fix battons to bricks behind. I've just realised though if I can find the studs I can screw the boards to the existing framework. I feel a bit daft now why didn't I think of that...

    Fixing plasterboard

The walls are pretty good they are skimmed Plaster board though 60 years old. So will the gyproc be ok if I dab it on the walls thinly? If it wont be ok are there any alternatives to board adhesive that will work on a 3mm thickness? I could add strips of wood to the existing mouldings to...

    Fixing plasterboard

Hi all. I want to fix some plasterboards to a wall but I can't go above about 15mm total thickness. I was going to use 9.5 boards and stick them with gyproc board adhesive. So obviously I have around 5mm adhesive thickness, is this enough? I'd rather use 12.5mm boards but that would reduce the...

    Cutting carpet.

I tried hook blades, ordinary blades and scissors the result was the same. It's the pile of the carpet the way it lies so I don't think it's possible to do what I wanted. I've cut it now and it wasn't bad as I thought it was going to be. The pile brushed over and I'm happy with it. Thanks anyway.

    Cutting carpet.

Hi all. I'm trying to cut a length of carpet but I'm having a problem with the finished edge. When looking at the two edges created by the cut one edge has the pile lying nicely over the edge but the other side of the cut is frayed and you can see a couple of mm of backing all down the edge. The...

    Upvc door problem.

I tried that I even turned the door upside door and on it's side but nothing. This morning I tried again and got it open. I forced the spring loaded plunger between the 2 horizontal pins up with a screwdriver and moved the pins the 2 millimetres they would only move. I then got an electricians...

    Upvc door problem.

Just had another look and noticed what might be the problem. In the picture just above the keyhole there is two oblong pins that slide along as the key turns. I've lifted the spring loaded plunger that sits between the pins and this moves them though only about 2mm. The slot the oblong pins are...

    Upvc door problem.

Hi all. This is a bit of a daft one but here goes. About 3 years ago I bought a upvc door from B&Q which was being sold off very cheap. I bought it to replace my porch door which is hinged on the wrong side in relation to the inner door and is looking a bit rough. The existing porch door was...

    Vinyl wall panels

Hi all. My daughter has moved into a house which has layer upon layer of wallpaper on the hall and stairs. After scraping some of the paper off we've come across fake wood paneling which is made from vinyl panels stuck to the wall with a black tar like adhesive. I seem to remember these being...

    Glazing beads problem

After reading your post I decided to find out why the gaps were out at the top and check everything for square. I lifted the glass out leaving the bottom bead in place and the bottom packers were fine. Measuring the glass diagonally it was spot on the frame was 2mm out over 2metres. If I welded...

    Glazing beads problem

I've just had another look at the gaps and the gap on the right side at the top edge, where I was trying to start the bead, is about 2mm while the gap at the left side of the top is nearer 6mm. The gaps down the sides are even at about 6mm. I'm not sure how that is happening at the top and the...

    Glazing beads problem

Yes the beads fit without the glass and I managed to start the beads using a short piece of wood that was 28mm thick to simulate the glass. Well I had another bash tonight and found that I could start one of the long beads by pressing it in, twisting it anti clockwise to force it down towards...

    Glazing beads problem

I'm actually using a Thor plastic mallet which looks pretty similar to that picture. I'm a tin basher one thing I'm not short of is hammers and mallets. What I am short of is the ability to do this.

    Glazing beads problem

Yes that's what I'm thinking of doing. I'll be really annoyed if he gets them in easily.

    Glazing beads problem

The packing pieces aren't a problem and I can't start the beads even well away from the packers. When I push the bead under the glass edge the little lip on the front of the bead is overhanging the frame front. The tongue doesn't reach the retaing slot at that point its just short of being in...

    Glazing beads problem

Well I had another go and failed again. The bead has to be forced against the frame and also then hit to push it against the glass and get the front lip to go over the frame front. When I hit the bead the glass thickness pushes the tongue up at the back and it won't go into the slot. I've tried...
