    reclaimed Junckers sports flooring

Ok thanks again big-all. I might even take the easy way out here. i can make perfect butt joints with my chop saw using the technique you suggest. why am i worrying about T+G or any sort of joint? I'm not sure really....these boards will be fully glued down. think i might be over-engineering...

    reclaimed Junckers sports flooring

On second thoughts, would the pullsaw be practical? I'd be trying to cut grooves across the end of boards that are still quite long (2m+)?

    reclaimed Junckers sports flooring

thanks big-all. Pullsaw with trenching - I just had to google that but I know what you mean now. Pullsaw with depth stop, I hadn't thought of that. I don't have a decent pullsaw but maybe it's time I got one. I've got quite a lot of cuts to make. What do you think of the biscuit jointer...

    reclaimed Junckers sports flooring

Hi, I've just bought some reclaimed Junckers beech flooring, cracking stuff, 129mm wide boards x 22mm thick, T+G all four sides. I need to re-cut some of the T+Gs on the ends as the guy I bought the floor off had to cut some of the longer boards for transport. Would appreciate advice on the...

    Velux windows - minimum pitch

Thank you Simon. I hadn't heard of the Forticrete tile you mention so will definitely take a look. 11deg is close to what I need. Main issue now is convincing planning about the aesthetics/matching. I'm convinced that matching the pitch to that of the main roof is simply wrong. Every...

    Velux windows - minimum pitch

I get the gist, thanks FMT :) Problem is it's all about aesthetics and I think that's going to spoil the appearance. I think I might have answered my own question (partly) ...... http://www.sunsquare.co.uk/products/skyview/ However, having looked around this site a bit I might have a...

    Velux windows - minimum pitch

Afternoon all, I'm in the early stages of planning a single storey extension to the rear of my house. For various reasons I'd like a roof with a very shallow pitch (less than 15deg), so I won't be doing this in conventional tiles (might go for zinc if I'm feeling rich enough). The problem...

tiled canopy - size of timber to use

sorry folks been away for a few days .... many thanks for the inputs. Nice picture woody - I get the idea. What spacing would you use between the trusses? Joinerjohn - projection from wall will be in the 1100-1200mm region, pitch is shallow, around 20deg which is near the limit for the...

tiled canopy - size of timber to use

evening all, I'm planning to rip down a flat-roofed canopy that covers my front door and a nearby window. The plan is to replace it with a pitch-roofed structure. Simple design with timber supports at the two front corners, tiled with mini-stonewolds to match adjacent structures. The...

    lead free flashing

thanks for the replies. I went to the merchants and had a feel of some ubiflex. Seems OK so I've ordered some. I'm sure you're right noseall, it won't be as good as lead and it ain't as pretty, but on this job it won't be much on show. I needed 18m of 300mm lead and l reckon this stuff is...

    lead free flashing

evening all, anyone out there with experience of using lead free alternatives to normal flashing? I've been searching around and have found something called Lacomet which is aluminium-based I think, and another one going by the name of Ubiflex. Would appreciate any advice from anyone who's...

    external timber / render finish

Ok cheers, I've got some breather membrane left over. For the flashing I was going to put it on before rendering - thought I would tuck it up behind the render stop bead and then create a bellcast type feature. Is that OK?

    external timber / render finish

OK woody thanks. WBP it is then. Any waterpoof membrane on it, or just fix the lath directly on the board?

    external timber / render finish

afternoon all, just finishing a small porch which adjoins my neighbours flat roof garage. BCO said we could do the party wall as a simple stud construction which is all in place. I now need to finish the small triangle which sticks up above his flat roof and follows the line of my sloping...

    flue clearance question

kirkgas, it's an Ideal Classic NF60. 18 years old so perhaps it will blow up soon and they'll have to replace it, with the flue properly positioned.

    flue clearance question

thanks sooey but it's a long story this one. The flue is my neighbour's and it's already in position. I extended a flat roof (with full planning permission/building regs etc) so there is now a flat roof below the flue. The 300mm clearance requirement is not met so there is a problem. Before...

    flue clearance question

afternoon all, when a flue disharges above a flat roof I understand it should have a minimum vertical clearance of 300mm but what about if it disharges close to a flat roof but not directly above it? In this particular case the flue is about 600m horizontally from a flat roof. I'm guessing...

    foundations problem / advice please

woody, yes it's a bit of a joke, but to be fair I did some of the digging and it was bad ground all the way to about 1.5m, full of all sorts of building junk, old drain pipes, rotten timber, electric cable and all sorts. We're just completing a project at the back of the house as well, similar...

    foundations problem / advice please

private drain freddy - it starts at the front left corner of the house and comes out diagonally to an inspection chamber. The bit that intersects my porch is before the inspection chamber. It could be relocated I'm sure, but lots of digging and mess. I reckon we'll have to bridge over it...

    foundations problem / advice please

well, planning because I live in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and you can barely lift a paint brush without planning around here, and building regs because I want the porch to be habitable space, so only an internal door separating it from the house etc etc. In any case the BCO is...
