No airbrick at the rear of the house.

My house is the usual shape Victorian terraced. With the side return. The ground floor is on two levels you step down to what is now a kitchen diner at the rear. The ground level seems to have bee risen also and there is no sign of any airbrick in the rear side return. I will install one, but...

    Alternative planks for decking

I do not really like the branded 'decking timber' you find in the big sheds with the grooves in. Can i use plain timbers? My mother has the grooved stuff and its slippery as anything so if the grooves are there they are not doing much. Would should i look for that will last externally kiln dried...

What material should i lay in the front yard?

My new house had a crazy paving style front yard. when laid they raised the ground level covering the slate DPC and level with the air bricks making it easy for rain water to run in. There is damp on the wall and this is the culprit i suspect. The house is on a hill and if i lower the ground...

Checking for mains coming into the house while digging.

My new house has raised the ground level of the house and covered airbricks and the original DPC. I plan on digging this out back to ground level and put some drainage in. I'm worried i will put a spade through the mains wire coming in or pipe work or something. Would a live wire and pipe...

    replastering after DPC

I assumed that was what they would do just patch in the bottom. So they quote I've received might be to have the walls skimmed after? I'll have to get on to the company.

    replastering after DPC

I'm in a process i purchasing a house. The survey as come back with high damp reading. I've just had a damp guy in who recommends a damp proof course. I do no like the idea of them just re-plastering half the wall will this just look rubbish? I'm considering hacking all the plaster off myself...

How would you lay reclaimed floorboard over tiles?

There are steps down to the kitchen diner so there is no levels to match up and can afford to lose the height. This maybe a option thank you.

How would you lay reclaimed floorboard over tiles?

I do not like the tiles so would replace them anyway. I thought it might be nice to car the wood right through the ground floor.

How would you lay reclaimed floorboard over tiles?

I have lovely floorboards in my new house except in the kitchen diner, where there are tiles. How would i go about laying reclaimed floorboards? I understand the need air circulation so would i have to lay joists and mount on them? Can you rip the tiles up and lay them on cement? Could be...
