Gap around socket - Please help me

The sockets are not installed correctly ?? What a load of tosh. Lazy tiler more like. It's people like your tiler that stop me ever getting in people to do work and I always end up doing it myself. If I bodge my own work, I can't complain. But I just hate paying some other git to bodge it on...

    levelling compound over concrete floor

I have just been checking the levels. Basically, this was 2 separate rooms originally. One half is fine, but the other half drops away to about 20mm 3m away. I want to lay some large 600mm square tiles, so I need to be level. I am thinking of using a sand/cement mix, to bring the floors to a...

Can I simply use PVA as a primer before self levelling on a concrete floor ? Cheers Wayne

    What colout grout?

I don't think it is a 'best practice' scenario. It's a matter of personal choice. If it was me, I would stick with white grout throughout.

    Floor tile levelling spacers

I want to lay some quartz 600x600 tiles in my kitchen. I have laid this size tile in my previous place, but found it a difficult job to get right. I have been advised to use levelling spacers, so what are peoples experiences ? I have seen various styles, which ones are recommended ? The...

    Damp proofing an old garage

Cheers guys. This isn't water ingress it is damp from the sodden clay soil underneath. I doubt it had a proper DPC when it was built, as it is not attached to the house and my garden gets VERY wet when it rains. I don't think it is condensation Frank, there is no heat in there and plenty of...

    Damp proofing an old garage

I moved house last year and inherited a 1970's concrete slab double garage. I have an old motor I am restoring in there and everything has been fine, but with the never ending rain, I have noticed that the concrete floor is getting more and more damp which is not good for my projects !!! How...

    Two rads not working ?

Hi dilalio. Sorry mate, no been on here for a while. I spoke to a mate at work and he suggested that the TRV's might be stuck closed after the summer and that's what the problem was !! I managed to free them up and everything works a treat now. Thanks for your help mate.

    Two rads not working ?

Hi Pete. That's what I thought, but I just get water out, no air. Do you think I could have an air lock further back in the pipework ? If I just draw out the water into a jug or something, then I suppose I would eventually get the air, right ?

    Two rads not working ?

I live in a 4 bed semi. No recent works carried out. But I did remove a rad in the Summer, to decorate the hall stairs and landing areas. Boiler is a WB 24 CDi. Just recently 2 upstairs bedroom rads stopped heating up at all. I have felt the pipes and they are cold too ? All the other...

    retaining wall

Ok cheers guys. GoferBlue - Thanks mate, I am a pretty decent DIYer and no doubt, I could build it myself, but it will take me 10x longer !!! But £1k is worth thinking about. noseall - I agree with you. My gut feeling was about £10k. So looking at the figures quoted, I reckon 10 - 15k...

    retaining wall

Thanks for the replies. I think you have a fair point Woody. I was only after a 'stab in the dark' figure. But as they are varying from 12 - 40k I guess your point is proved correct. I need to get a 'man' round to take a look. Or maybe 3 men !!!

    WB Greenstar 24i Junior

Hi. I recently moved house and have inherited the boiler above. Which was fine, up until I fitted a new bathroom and installed a new thermostatic shower. There was an old thermo shower there previously, which was fine (nice and hot). But since fitting the new one, the shower isn't very...

    retaining wall

Can anyone advise on ballpark costs for someone to build a retaining wall. The wall needs to go between me and my neighbours property. Very good access to both sides from the road, which also has excellent access. We are side onto a hill, my driveway rises from the pavement to approx. 4ft...

    Moving a radiator

I have recently moved home and wish to move a radiator, which is currently placed on a wall behind the sofa, not ideal. I want to move it to another wall. The current pipework is 15mm. Will it make a huge difference if I drop the size to 10mm to feed the new rad location, which will be...

Cracks in walls on house we're buying. Your opinion?

Hi Alex. I personally would be cheesed off at laying out for a surveyors report, that only points out the obvious, but can't give any answers as to why !!! I had the same problem with surveyors when I bought a 1930's house a few years ago, complete waste of money and not inexpensive either...

    Another Garage Question !!!

Yes, I see your point Tony. Thanks again. I might just have a chat with my neighbour to gauge his response, since he will be the only person likely to complain if anyone. I am a classic car fan, hence why I need the storage + workshop, I think that is reasonable enough.
