You are quite right Breezer, it's just as I have my laptop with me for other reasons, I thought I might as well use it at my own convienence.

    Cooker cable

As to a "standard switch" it looks like a 13A mains on/off. Can't say about the fuse as it's at son's house but it would be no more than 13A (cartridge fuse holder) Wire diameter is as the size of a mains TV cable wire Does this help Andrew?

    Laptop Connections Abroard

I shall be travelling to both the USA and Australia (not business orientated) and wish to be able to make use of email etc while I'm away. (Hotmail) I have checked out a few sites offering "services" but nothing seems really clear cut. As I shall be away a while, I don't want a huge bill piling...

    Cooker cable

I need to wire in my son's new NEFF oven. The instructions say use cable type H05VV-F but this cable appears to come in various sizes/current ratings. The current oven is wired into a junction box with a cable of a similar size to the cable on your average TV, except it has a black rubber...

    Gas Fire Removal

Have you ever tried to get a Corgi fitter in to do a small job - they are not interested. My son in Milton Keynes has been trying for three weeks to get a Corgi registered man in to fit his new gas hob. No wonder people DIY.

    Gas Fire Removal

I had a Benraad balanced flue convector heater professionally fitted in my kitchen many years ago. I now wish to remove it. The quarter inch gas pipe from the heater terminates at the house gas outlet via a standard on/off connection fitted during the original installation. Can I just unscrew...

Painting skirting boards - carpet removal?

I have used one of those plastic shields and whilst it's obviously not as good as removing the carpet I have found it easy to use and if you are careful, no bleed through. When you consider that apart from the stairs a good majority of skirting is covered by furniture, chairs etc. What little...

    Dead Locks

I need to replace my son's front door dead lock (lost key). They seem to be sold in 2 1/2 and 3 inch sizes. Apart from this size difference are they all manufactured to standard sizes in that all key holes are in the same relative position and all door cavity's are the same size regardless of make?

    Chrome pipes

I am about to change my shower unit. The shower unit is currently fed by two external chrome pipes on a 65mm pitch. Are there any problems to be aware of in connecting to "chrome pipes". To expand the 65mm pitch to fit a larger unit I was thinking of using (1) plastic pipes and junctions...

    replacement shower

I wish to replace the shower in my sons bathroom. The current shower is a mixer type, supplied by both hot and cold pumped water from the usual tanks. The supply pipes are external (i.e. exposed on the wall), stainless steel and run down the wall on a 55mm pitch. The replacement shower I would...

    Monoblock Taps

Well I took the bull by the horns and repaired the monoblock tap for my son. Found I did not have all the right washers to do the job so left some of the originals on. The kettle cleaner worked a treat on cleaning the scale off the tap parts. So once again thanks for all the advice.

    Monoblock Taps

Do I gather you resolved the problem by a washer change, descale and a regreasing and not a new tap?

    Monoblock Taps

My son's monoblock sink tap is quite stiff to turn and the water flow out of it does not appear to be under much pressure and takes ages to fill a bowl. He now reports that the hot water has stopped flowing out of it but the cold is OK. My question is; am I likely to be able to repair this by...
