    How would you do this?

The socket for the extractor would be between the top of the wall cabinet and the ceiling so is not readily accessible, so I will be installing an isolator for that reason. I will also use a ring final as opposed to a radial. I will use single sockets where a 20a DP switch is used as an...

    How would you do this?

Yes, its purely for the kitchen. I thought a 20a radial would be ok for the number of sockets it was supplying. Would a 32a ring be more appropriate?

    How would you do this?

Being relatively new, the biggest problem I have is lack of experience when it comes to deciding the easiest/quickest/cheapest/best way of doing an installation. I have been asked to install a new power circuit in a new kitchen extension. In the diagram below you can see the left wall, the...

Panel Heater Control - Sourcing a replacement

I was asked by my elderly neighbour to investigate a clunking/wirring noise coming from her understairs cupboard. On investigation I noticed the noise was coming from this : This controls 6 panel heaters - 3 upstairs (RH Timer) 3 Downstairs (LH timer). All the heaters have their own...

im starting 17th edition training friday

Having done the 16th last year then just completed the 17th (100% :D ), I found that identifying which 'Part' the question is aimed at was the first step (definitions, special locations are obvious and easiest). Once you know which 'Part' to look in, if your tutor has done their job correctly...

Both RCD's trip at the same time.

Blimey Taylortwocities, so you know him too!!! BAS, he reckons he has 20 years experience but he his very set in his ways and won't take advice from a whippersnapper like me even though in some instances I know I am correct (eg during the CU change we had to lengthen all the circuits, I...

Both RCD's trip at the same time.

Being fairly new to the profession and struggling finding work I teamed up with a friendly local Electrician to 'help' change a consumer unit. It was a straightforward change (2 Lights, 1 Ring, 1 Cooker) and all the test results were fine. However when doing the functional test at the end when...

Extending a ring main - Crimping

I did not say I wanted to break into both legs. I want to break into one leg and take a cable from each end to a socket to extend the ring. I thought this was an acceptable way of adding a socket to an existing ring. My question was ; what is the best way of connecting the two new cables to the...

Extending a ring main - Crimping

I want to add two sockets to a ring main. Because of accessibility problems I intend to cut into a leg of the existing ring, join a length of 2.5 to each cut end and take both legs to a new socket, then spur off that socket to the other socket. My question is, As the joins will be under the...

electric oven & hob allowing for diversity

There is a 40amp mcb at the cu. From there, a 6mm cable goes to a cooker switch. From the cooker switch there is a 6mm to the hob and a and 2.5mm to the oven.

electric oven & hob allowing for diversity

I was working with an electrician with 30 years experience today. We came across a cooker switch which was fed from the cu with 6mm t&e. From the switch there was a 2.5 t&e to the 5kw electric oven and a 6mm t&e to the 6kw electric hob. By my calculation there would be a total of 48 amps but...

    Testing Supplementary Bonding

How do you actually test supplementary bonding. Do you just connect your LRO from pipe to pipe and if its a low reading they must be bonded. Do you not have to test back to the MET to prove the pipe bonding is connected to some electrical apparatus in the zone? Or is it just a visual check?
