Leaking toilet cistern - This one is driving me mad!

I've been trying to get this fixed for weeks now, and I am no closer. Everything I try fails. I need help! I'm new to plumbing (and I'm a semi-competent DIYer). The toilet cistern is an old style Sanitan toilet The problem is that it has always had a slow leak coming from the cistern...

Leaking joint in drainage pipe - What do I need to buy?

Thanks. That looks like the right one, but my waste pipe measures 56mm. That one says 50mm. I have struggled to find a 56mm one anywhere.

Leaking joint in drainage pipe - What do I need to buy?

Yes - the merchant's are usually really helpful. But this one wasn't. Probably it didn't help that I showed up 5 minutes before closing time... Really what I'd like to do is fit a new rubber gasket anyway. Even though he told me you shouldnt on PVC, I've seen other fittings online that do...

Having a bonfire in the middle of my lawn!

Thanks all. That has assuaged my fears! I do have an incinerator already (basically a metal bin with some holes in the sides) but it's much too small for what I have to burn now. I'll just do the bonfire on the grass I think. I'm not worried about the grass catching light as its pretty...

Having a bonfire in the middle of my lawn!

I've gone a bit crazy this weekend with the cutting and pruning and now have a vast amount of branches to get rid of. No way I will be able to get it all into the garden recycling bags, so I think I'll have to burn it. My lawn is knackered and weed infested anyway so I dont mind killing...

Leaking joint in drainage pipe - What do I need to buy?

So... I went to my local plumber's merchant with the rubber boss insert to have it replaced. He told me that boss joint was intended for cast iron pipes and that there was no point putting a new rubber insert on as it wouldn't fit tight. My pipes are all plastic. Is there a different...

How do I patch up this flaking pebbledash render

Thanks. I can't tell if it is plastic paint. It was already looking like this when we moved in a year ago. I have normal exterior masonry paint. So it is ok to paint straight into that surface, after I have removed the crumbling parts? If I hack off the bottom 5cm then how can I make...

How do I patch up this flaking pebbledash render

My garage wall is looking terrible. The paint and a thin top coat of tender is flaking off on many places. How should I best repair this without having to rerender the whole thing? Should I try and just paint over it, or perhaps cover with pva first and then paint it?

Leaking joint in drainage pipe - What do I need to buy?

OK. Great. Thanks With that information and knowing now that it is called a strap on boss I was able to Google it and found what I think I need... http://www.nationalplastics.co.uk/index.php/50mm-boss-adapter-rubber-push-fit-110mm-ring-seal-soil-system-black.html

Leaking joint in drainage pipe - What do I need to buy?

I've got a leak in a drainage pipe where it joins the main vertical soil pipe. The leak comes whenever the sink or bath is used, because the pipe that carries the waste water towards the soil pipe has come loose. It has a soft rubber insert. I've tried to push it into the other pipe but...

Thanks. I will try and find one that i can use with a standard drill so I don't need to buy an angle grinder.

Best way to sand down concrete render

Any ideas. Should I chip it all off and try again. It was my first attempt after all and I hadn't appreciated how tough cement is. Is there an attachment i could get for a drill that could work?

Best way to sand down concrete render

My first attempt at rendering part of a wall (to repair) it went fairly well, but unfortunately I have added too much in a few places. It is now totally dry and rock hard. What is the best way to sand it down to get it smooth. I know I should have done it before it set fully but I...

Installing a bamboo barrier to prevent it spreading

Thanks. That might be a good option for the part near the patio, where I want to double up. I can probably pick some old ones up for free on my local freecycle group. Could be more hassle than it's worth given the weight though. And I worry that the rhizomes could still force their way...
