Advice on building stud wall in alcove

Thanks a lot for the advice @JobAndKnock. Really appreciated your advice on my last job, the half stud wall turned out perfectly. @sircerebus666 @foxhole @Why Not Indeed I understand people thinking its a waste of space, but it really makes the room feel uneven. Were it to go all the way up...

Advice on building stud wall in alcove

Hi all, I was wondering if someone could help me with blocking off an alcove with a stud wall. We have this odd alcove in our dining room that is currently shelved. However the alcove isn't the height of the room, as the chimney goes off to the left above it. It just kinda looks a bit crap...

Making a fireplace chamber larger, building regs required?

 Thanks @frutbunn , I will try to get the installer to come have a look (if that's possible right now anyway given the latest...), and double check with them that that is the case for NI.

Making a fireplace chamber larger, building regs required?

I live in Northern Ireland, and my wife and I are wanting to remove our current cast iron fireplace, and install a wood burning stove in its place. We also want the opening made larger, by about a foot in height, and about a bricks worth either side. We have been talking to a local stove...

Opinion: Tile up to worktop or behind fridge

I was wondering if I could get some advice on what would be best for this particular wall. Ideally I would like to end at the worktop end, but if I do, then I will be tiling half a fused spur, which would probably look a bit crap. Other option is to tile behind the fridge, but I'm not too keen...

Kitchen: Centre on cooker spashback or window

@JaimieH Yeah that’s true. I’m thinking of maybe centring on the window, since it’s permanent. The kitchen is new so I could argue that the range ain’t going anywhere for a very long time either.

Kitchen: Centre on cooker spashback or window

@matlob Sorry meant to include, the tiles have no bevel, they are completely flat.

Kitchen: Centre on cooker spashback or window

I am tiling my kitchen wall and window recess with a small 7.5x15cm white subway tile, in brick effect, with 1mm spacer with white grout, up to (at this point) the height of the extractor hood. So the tiles will be the same height all the way around the wall, (10 rows). I have just laid them...

Tiling around or under kitchen extractor hood

I have just installed a new kitchen and have a new extractor hood to put up. We are thinking of tiling either 3/4 of the wall, or right to the ceiling with a small white brick tile. What I was wondering was; do I fir the extractor to the wall first, and tile around it (it's a square hood so...

Advice on how new range cooker was wired up

Just as a bit of an update; called the spark and he agreed that he probably shouldn't have done it that way, and agreed to come back and reconnect the cooker to the cooker circuit and connected the range up directly. Came back a couple of days later and did it free of charge.

Safe to remove kitchen extractor hood from spur until new one arrives

Hi, I was wanting to double check that it is safe for me to remove my old extractor hood from its fused spur and leave it switched off (and fuse removed) until my new extractor arrives? The hood is on the kitchen sockets circuit, so I want to switch the circuit breaker off for this circuit...

Advice on how new range cooker was wired up

@winston1 I thought as much, but thought if I approached it right, I might get somewhere. May have to consult a solicitor. @bernardgreen Yes, the gas supply was connected by a GasSafe registered person I've used a number of times. @EFLImpudence I've attached the full plate.

Advice on how new range cooker was wired up

I'm in the middle of a kitchen renovation, and needed some plugs move to accomodate the new layout. The previous, single oven was on the north wall with the cooker switch next to it. We got a double oven range cooker and moved it to the east wall and advertised on MyBuilder for an electrcian...

Installing Ikea kitchen - Advice on cover panel for larder

Thanks @foxhole, looks like I have a bit of space to spare so fitted it along the entire length of the larder cupboard. Quite happy with the result.

Installing Ikea kitchen - Advice on cover panel for larder

Hi all, I am looking for confirmation on how to attach a cover panel to the side of a 220cm tall larder cupboard, between a normal height base unit. This image shows that you do run a panel the entire height of the larder cupboard, then the worktop and cupboard door of the base unit finish...

Affixing end panel between dishwasher and range cooker

Good tip @foxhole, I’ll be sure to check before fixing. Thanks, it’s been a long time coming. Cant wait to get it finally complete! We were planning to get it all sorted right before the lockdown came around. Been surrounded with boxes ever since.

Affixing end panel between dishwasher and range cooker

Hi @Burnerman (John), yes sorry forgot to mention the dishwasher is free standing, but integrated in Ikea terms (there's no base unit, it has its own feet but an Ikea door front). Ah I see, that sounds a much better approach. I didn't like the idea of the L-brackets myself, they never seem too...

Affixing end panel between dishwasher and range cooker

I am installing an Ikea kitchen and am getting one of their custom ceramic worktops installed. I will be having my dishwasher and range cooker side by side, so they told me I need to install a cover panel between the two for additional support for the worktop. However this needs to be...
