    Security light

Hi I've got a security light that is wired onto a 3 switch spur, the other 2 switches are for lighting. I'm planning on adding a few more security lights so my question is would I be best disconnecting the existing security light from the 3 switch spur, then replacing the 3 switch spur for 2...

UPVC door-cutting slot for letter plate

thanks dude, I was originally going to remove the door and do it whilst it was flat but looking at the hinges I thought it would be easier to drill and cut without removing it. The hinges have like an allen screw in the top and bottom and then grub screws on the side. I know some of these screws...

UPVC door-cutting slot for letter plate

Hi Our UPVC door has no mail slot, we currently have a post box mounted on the gate, however we would like letters to be posted through the door. I've got a letter plate, can a UPVC be jigsawed without damaging the door. I'm not sure of the construction of the door but even if there is a steel...

    Replacing existing fireplace with aquarium

not sure about power either, was thinking about running an extension socket either under the carpet or floor board but I've heard that it can be dangerous to route the cable under the carpet. Cables from the ceiling would not work as I would be removing the flume.

    Reasonable quote?

calm down dudes, wasn't moaning just asking if 3K seems reasonable as this is my first house and my first boiler upgrade it is all new teritory to me. Like I said if it's worth 3K i will happily pay 3K but I just couldn't see how it added up but after reading through the posts I can see now that...

    Reasonable quote?

take everything on board and not trying to fall out with anything but I find your response a bit aggressive, lets get something straight a boiler at 1k is not half the cost of materials, copper pipe is next to nothing, ok the controller and thermostat for top end your looking 100-200, inline...

    Reasonable quote?

fair play MJgas, but still a lot for labour in my eyes. No measurements he just looked said I need a new gas line, said current one is 15mm so will put in a 28mm and then go down to 22mm for the boiler. The only way in or out of the loft is a little hatch that I can just squeeze into so tank...

    External insulation for cavity walls?

Hi guys, I've searched the web but couldn't find the answer I was looking for so thought I would post it here. Our house was built in the 1930's and I'm sure it is cavity wall as the pattern of the bricks point to that. Our energy efficiency is a E and the house gets rate cold and takes ages to...

    Sime superior 60 boiler

I have a voltage meter at work, can you tell me some locations of where to test to identify the problem, if I can prove that the PCB is working as it should I'm going to leave it for the experts or just get a new boiler ( as it is old and inefficient) but if I can prove that there is a fault on...

    Sime superior 60 boiler

well the dude who changed the transistors said the parts cost him £0.71 from maplins, so it's worth a try as his problem sounds exactly like mine. Just not sure what he is on about lol

    Sime superior 60 boiler

I have a Sime Superior 60 boiler which is having problems starting up. The fan runs for a few seconds then stops, restarts, stops etc for around 5 minute before the pilot light ignites the main burners. The problem has been occurring for a couple of weeks and is steadily getting worse, it...

I came across your post about your sime superior boiler, my boiler has exactly the same fault...

I came across your post about your sime superior boiler, my boiler has exactly the same fault. it hums then clicks off, hums and clicks off, after about 20 mins it eventually kicks in so I think what worked for you might work for me. Where are these transistors and capacitors that you changed...

    Replacing existing fireplace with aquarium

Hi Guys In the house I have moved into there is a fire place in the middle of the room, I find this to be impractical and also kind of an eye sore. It may look ok in the pic but when you are in the room you can't see the entire room because of the flume and we never use the fire place (it's...
