Basic UPVC Window Trim Glue Question

Hello to all. Just a quick question. I have replaced an old window with a new UPVC unit. I now need to fix some quadrant trim to the sides and top of frame outside to hide the gap between frame and brickwork. I have some plumbers solvent weld, the stuff you use to join plastic waste pipes. Is...

Thanks. Just to confirm - they're not one piece. They're individual coals.

Where Can I Get Coals For Robinson Willey 'Romany' Gas Fire?

Thanks for your replies. The coals are actually individual, not one unit. How would I know which ones to get as the originals are destroyed? There seem to be 1000s of different ones on Ebay. I thought new ones had to be the same as originally supplied? Or doesn't it matter?

Where Can I Get Coals For Robinson Willey 'Romany' Gas Fire?

Been looking around for some new coals for my elderly father's Robinson Willey Romany gas fire. They seem to be obsolete. Is there anywhere that sells coals for older gas fires? My father keeps using it, even though the original coals have turned to dust. Any advice appreciated. This is the...

Will Valve From New Stop Tap Fit Into Old Stop Tap?

Thanks for all your replies. So looks like either the threads from one set of internals to another for stop taps may not match. And getting the tap apart may be difficult. As it looks like black alkathene, can I buy a stop tap to fit the alkathene pipe one side and 15mm copper the other? Or are...

Nice Clint Eastwood quote, but you forgot the word 'punk'. (y)

Will Valve From New Stop Tap Fit Into Old Stop Tap?

My stop tap is approx. 35 years old and seized. I tried everything to free it, but the spindle snapped. It's in a really difficult place to renew the whole tap. What are the chances of me unscrewing the valve/head gear out of the old tap and screwing in the valve from a new stop tap? Or is it...

    Laying new pipes over joists

I'm after a bit of advice from the experts. I'm putting new copper 22mm pipes in the upstairs floor for the ch flow and return then branching off to each rad in 15mm. What it the best way to lay the pipes over the joists in their notches? I'm really keen to make them as quiet as possible so they...

    Advice On Lifting Floorboards Please

Thanks a lot for your replies. Will definitely get one of those bars and try some of the methods described. Chatting to a friend, he reckons he uses a 5mm HSS drill to drill down into the nails at the end of board to destroy the nails. Then puts a screw in each side of board half way in, then...

    Advice On Lifting Floorboards Please

I'm after a few tips on lifting some floorboards so I can do some work on the ch pipes underneath. The house was built in 1960, and the floorboards in question haven't been up since it was built. They are usual old school boards, not tongue and groove. The main problem would be getting the end...

Final Couple Of Exp. Vesel Questions.

Thanks for your replies. TELEGAN Pump was slightly noisier for first few mins after start up following work. Fine now. Doesn't seem to trap air like pumps on vented systems. 831BUNNY No, didn't cap old vessel. I saw the joint for it, behind control panel and dhw plate HE at the back. Is...

Final Couple Of Exp. Vesel Questions.

Ok, before anyone got to me, I've successfully installed the new external 12ltr ev, and everything seems fine. 2 more questions in addition to the ones above; I took the risk, and reduced the new ev's pressure to .75 bar. With the heating on, and boiler's radiator dial set to three...

Final Couple Of Exp. Vesel Questions.

My ongoing saga with Turbomax, and blown ev. I'm piping up a new external (Reflex brand/Screwfix) ev to the boiler tomorrow as a replacement on the return pipe. 1) The new ev is 12 litres and precharged at 1.5bar, the Vaillant's is 10 litres - charge should be .75bar. Is it OK to let pressure...

Which 3/4'' Connector For Expansion Vessel?

Just a quick one. How do I connect 15mm pipe to 3/4'' connector on new external expansion vessel? Will a 3/4'' tap connector do it? Thanks

    Turbomax Expansion Vessel - DIYable?

Didn't mean to start a debate. Thanks for the info though. If it helps, the water coming out of ev was discoloured, and smells of corrosion inhibitor. Also, can get loads out of valve. So, I'm thinking it's not condensation. As no one encouraged me to do diy replacement., it's going to be...

Fitting External Exp Vess Instead Of Renewing Combi's

Compheat In cloak room. Does it make a difference? There's no way 'er indoors would allow a big red tank on her kitchen wall. But, what do women know? Fred

Fitting External Exp Vess Instead Of Renewing Combi's

My ongoing saga with the broken exp vessel on my 7 yr old Vaillant Turbomax 824e has led me to the decision to leave the ev in situ, and add an external vessel. I have a few questions; The boiler's ev is 10 litres. I can get 12 litre capacity ones, will this be ok? The boiler's...

    Turbomax Expansion Vessel - DIYable?

    Turbomax Expansion Vessel - DIYable?

Thanks again to all. The boiler is 7 years old, don't know what the life of an ev is supposed to be. If I undo the connection at the bottom of ev, will it slide out the top at back? Did my brother's Remeha last year, dead easy. Ev access really good. Vaillant not so easy. :(
