    Boiler control vs thermostat

Hi all! I have a condensing boiler, and I have recently fitted a wireless thermostat. My simple question is: does the thermostat override the settings on the boiler (the on/offs that used to control our heating) or do they work in conjunction with one another (ie the thermostat will control...

Room Stat for Ferroli boiler, but not a Ferroli Stat!

Superb, good man! I cant believe i went against my own research and let my plumber fit one! Damn my tight-fistedness!

    how much should it cost

Tray in 1/2 a day, tile 1 day, grout and tidy 1/2 day. Total 2 days, £400. Grout no more than a tenner, first fix pipework no more than £40. As long as you supply all materials youve said (including tile adhesive) and THEY ARE ALL ON SITE! (nothing will grind a trademans goat more than not...

Removing grout when tiles had no spacers used

Dont waste your money on that tool - especially if as it sounds your grout joints are different thicknesses - just use a stanley knife. Hold it at about 45deg to the joint and pull. Then 45deg the other way and pull. Youll have taken the grout out that is touching the tile doing this. Then...

Room Stat for Ferroli boiler, but not a Ferroli Stat!

Are most electronic room thermostats compatible with most combi boilers? I have a ****ty Ferroli boiler, and dont want to line their pockets any more than I already have. If so does anyone recommend a (wired) thermostat thats reasonably priced, handy to use, etc. ? Thanking you!

Aligning Shower Arm and Wall Mounted Taps

Great tip on the tap, it's a family friends tap so I'll put it to them! Onto your suggestion for fixing the tap, I don't think that'd work at the tap flange fits tight to the tiles and the chances of setting it to the exact thickness is minimal on such a tight thread? I honestly can't see any...

Aligning Shower Arm and Wall Mounted Taps

Is the Loctite 55 basically a better version of PTFE? The taps are the following: http://www.hudsonreed.co.uk/products/taps/tec-single-lever/wall-mounted-basin-mixer-PN381...

Aligning Shower Arm and Wall Mounted Taps

Hi All, With reference to the following thread: http://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/bbathroom-fitting-need-advice.381358/ I understand that I can do away with the locking nuts on the back of the arms, as this is only if I have access to the back of the partition wall, and its fine to have them...

    Shower screen install

You mean the arm extends to within 200mm of the end of the shower screen from the wall the screen is fitted to (one of the cranked-style arms)? If so then yes this is ample. With regards to the type of rawl plug, you will have no problems with a standard brown plug (7mm), knocked in so it is...

Concealed Cistern in an external 2-skin wall?

I have a customer who wants a hidden cistern to save space in his smallish bathroom. The toilet is currently on the external (2 skin w/cavity) wall, and there is nowhere else it will fit, so has to stay on this wall. He doesnt want a small boxing to hide the cistern, even though it would only...

Reinforcing Block and Beam Floor for extra Brickwork

This was a possibility I was thinking of.... Its into a garage next door so I was thinking some sort of low level cantilevered steel support the other side bolted down to the floor and resting on the 2skin gable wall. Seems a little bit heath robinson but im sure it would alleviate my fears and...

Reinforcing Block and Beam Floor for extra Brickwork

it will be approximately 2.5m wide x 600deep x 4m high, so quite alot of masonry... i just REALLY dont want to liable for anything untoward that may happen....

Reinforcing Block and Beam Floor for extra Brickwork

I cant do the brick slip idea, the customer is very particular about things and he will definitely not go for this!! I also agree that the floor would more than cope with the loading, but im one of those people who always imagines the worst case scenario and in a small town where I live I...

Reinforcing Block and Beam Floor for extra Brickwork

Completely for show, its for a range to fit inside, with just an extractor pipe running up it. It will have an 'inner' studwork former, ply'ed out with brick ties attached to bind together. Its being built out from the gable wall roughly the width of the worktop (ie 600mm) and up to ceiling height.

Reinforcing Block and Beam Floor for extra Brickwork

I have a client who wants to build a faux inglenook feature in their kitchen. The floor it is to be built off is block and beam (bison beam) and so would need reinforcing somehow. Anybody come across this before? I havent in my 10+ years in the building trade and so am a little stuck in how best...

    Showers Started Running Just Cold!

It's sorted, I think! The pump is 3 bar, but on testing the mains pressure it is 7bar! I've turned down the main stop for the time being with a view to getting a pressure reducing valve fitted so they're both around 3 bar. Cold must've been overpowering the hot or something...!

    Showers Started Running Just Cold!

Weve recently had a new shower fitted (thermostatic mixer). The first shower we had was grand, the next one was tepid, and since then its been nothing but cold!! My system is as follows: Mains cold, gravity tank hot, which is pumped to the shower. I thought it might be that the pump was...

New Mixer Shower with two Heads but no water!

New Mixer Shower with two Heads but no water!

Ok, thanks all. Im seriously contemplating going all 21st century and getting rid of the system altogether and getting a combi fitted. Surely not that much work if the pipeworks already in! :) take the old out, put the new in, make the tank/cylinder redundant. Easy! :)

New Mixer Shower with two Heads but no water!

The header tank for the cylinder is on a shelf immediately above the cylinder. It could be moved another metre upwards by putting it in the loft. What effect would this have on the pressure of the system? enough to make a difference? (the shower pressure ratings are 1bar min 6bar max) Also am...
