Best tool to enlarge a hole

I've had some downlights fitted but to cut a long story short, they're the wrong ones. As the ceiling is on a slope I need adjustable downlights, however the hole for them needs to be 85mm instead of the existing 72mm What's the best way to enlarge the hole? Will I be able to use a hole saw as...

    Small size firedoor

Can I then let's say get one of these pre-routed liners http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/205863/?source=123_75 and cut it down to the right width and fit the Intumescent strip into the liner? Can I let's say add some trim to the face of the fire door to spruce it up a bit?

    Blotchy mist coat

I've tried painting today some skimmed walls (left to dry for about 4 months) with some Dulux Supermatt watered down by about 25%. However in some parts the finish is very blotchy and almost looks like there is some sort of stain on the plaster. Any idea how to rectify this? Thanks

    Small size firedoor

Building control have informed me I need to install a fire door between the hallway and the area in between that and the kitchen. However, I've only got 76cm between the wall and the wooden upright (which seems to support the stairs) on the left once I removed the old bit of panelling. You...

    Adherance to plans

Roof slope was specified in the plans as 22.5 with Redland 49 tiles. Actual slope is about 15 with Redland 49 tiles - they can only go down to 17.5 with a large overlap. Plus he used a sand & cement (very little cement) fillet instead of lead flashing down the side abutment to the main house...

    Adherance to plans

Hi I had full plans submitted to BC which were approved. The builder hasn't followed those plans e.g. roof slope is incorrect, render over DPC As building control have signed everything off apart from the final inspection do I have an recourse against them as they should have spotted these...

    Laminate over different subfloors

Concrete level is flush with the floorboards. I thought you can't use an underlyway with a dpm over floorboards as the subfloor won't be able to "breathe" etc.

    Laminate over different subfloors

I'm about to lay some laminate in my hallway and under the stairs. However, the previoius owner decided to put in a concrete slab under part of the staircase. I was going to put down the white roll of underlay on the floorboard area but i'm not sure what to do where the concrete slab is. Do I...

    Kitchen worktop by window ledge

Thanks - would sealant be suitable at the join of the worktop and the tiling / window board to keep everything watertight?

    Kitchen worktop by window ledge

Does anyone have any suggestions what to do where the worktop reaches the window ledge? As you can see in the picture below (without the worktop) the units are just below the level of the window so once the worktop is added there will be a big gap between the top of the worktop and the bottom...

    Architrave / Skirting Qs

Unfortunately its not wide enough. Forgot to ask my other q in the original post. I'm going to get the upstairs landing carpetted but where should I finish the skirting where it reaches the banisters? Where the floorboard ends or right up to the edge?

    Architrave / Skirting Qs

I'm fitting new architrave - the door liner is perfectly upright but the wall is bowed / drunk (and the floor slopes)! In the pic you can see that the architrave is almost flush against the wall at the bottom but then a gap / ravine develops along the length. Am I best leaving the gap as it is...
