    Floor make up advice

Hi All I am hoping for some input regarding a floor make up. I am converting an old block building in my garden into a summer room/occasional guest accommodation. Due to acquiring a door that is slightly too tall (but is saving a huge amount of money!), I only have 40mm to make up the floor...

    Cable without colours

Hi All Just after a bit of information regarding SWA cable. Yesterday while temporarily removing an outdoor socket so i could paint a wall, i noticed that the SWA cable that had been used to feed it didn't have any coloured wires in it. It was five core, and each core was white with a number...

    Pipe fittings

Hi Alkathene is a new one on me - will do some searching!! Its certainly black, and i am 99.9% certain its imperial. My rough measurement is an OD of 20mm ish (measured with a tape so not particularly accurate) Any idea where I can find the fittings? Everything I find is either MDPE or a...

    Pipe fittings

Hi All I am looking to remove a tap that is in an old shed. It would appear the pipe work is 3/4 inch plastic (like mdpe, but older?!?). The best place to blank it is at a T Under the shed floor, the other flow pipe going to an outside tap that I want to keep. I have been looking for either...

    Dewalt cordless hammer drills

Hi Thanks for the reply. I had considered going with a corded one, but have decided to bite the bullet and pay the money to go cordless. I am what i call a glorified DIYer. I work ad hoc with a carpenter around my shifts for a bit of pocket money and because I enjoy it (Hobby Job). No...

    Dewalt cordless hammer drills

Hi All I am looking at buying a cordless hammer drill, and was hoping for some first hand experience Although there is always potential for a brand war, I am very much down the dewalt route and for convenience with batteries etc, wont be considering anything else. For context, I am about to...

    Renewing lockshields

Hi all Hopefully a straight forward question! I am going to renew all of the trvs in my house (drayton trv4 or danfoss rasc2 depending on availability locally). Obviously some trvs include a lockshield in the pack as well. Is it worth renewing at the same time? The reason it's not straight...

    Rendagrip vs Blue Grit

Ok, that makes sense. SBR slurry it is! Thanks

    Rendagrip vs Blue Grit

Hi Thanks for the reply. Any idea what makes rendagrip suitable for external whereas blue grit is only for internal? An SBR slurry sounds like a cheaper option (the rendering is a maximum of 2m2 so you can see why 35 quid for 10l of rendagrip isnt that appealing!). Will look into that.

    Rendagrip vs Blue Grit

Hi All Can anyone let me know the difference between rendagrip and blue grit? I have a small area of external rendering to do, and some blue grit left over from a precious job. Just wondering if there is any reason not to use it? Obviously rendagrip is advertised as being for rendering, but...

    Stringers for external staircase

Hi All Hoping for some guidance. I need to create a set of timber steps in my garden. The total rise is about 1600. I have only found 1 company that sell pre made stringers large enough to do the job......and they want to add a huge delivery charge that makes buying from them a no go (total...

Can anyone help me understand this light switch wiring?

That was my thoughts....it makes no sense at all. The downstairs lights will only work if the red cables from wire 2 and 3 are connected, and yet the neutral from wire 2 seems to be completely irrelevant. EFL: Thanks for taking the time with paintbrush! Really appreciated. That makes perfect...

Can anyone help me understand this light switch wiring?

Hi All I have spent some time today investigating this wiring, and have some additional information.... Switch 1: Is 100% a disused outside light. I have disconnected it at both ends and made safe. Problem solved. Now onto the strange wiring: Wire 1: Was deffo the switch wire for the outside...

Can anyone help me understand this light switch wiring?

Hi Winston You are of course 100% correct, a mis use of terminology on my part. At no point did I mean to imply it was actually in a ring....although given the confusing nature of the wiring you never know! The mis use of terminology aside, do you have any experience with wiring such as...

Can anyone help me understand this light switch wiring?

The blocks are chock bloc. All of these wires are wedged in the back of a single 3 gang switch. I am 100% in agreement that someone has been fiddling - would fall in line with a number of other things in this house (14 different cold water pipes in various parts of the bathroom or 11 different...

Can anyone help me understand this light switch wiring?

Hi EFL Thanks for the reply. Switch 1 is a complete mystery. The best possibility is that it was a switch for an old outside light which is mounted in the soffit and long dead. Don't have a ladder big enough to check - but its on my to do list. Never seen a switch used as a connector! New one...
