    Hi All

Just after a bit of information regarding SWA cable.

Yesterday while temporarily removing an outdoor socket so i could paint a wall, i noticed that the SWA cable that had been used to feed it didn't have any coloured wires in it. It was five core, and each core was white with a number. printed on it in black. The 2 extra cores were terminated, and the other 3 had old colour tape (Red, Black,Green) on them to signify Positive/Neutral/Earth.

Just wondered if anyone had come across this before? Wondered if it was from an industrial setting that someone had snaffled to install in their outdoor socket years ago.

    Cheers

Sounds like it, multi core SWA was usually a special order

There is no positive on an AC supply.

As useful as ever, why not give an explanation?

Not trying to help people - just trying to prove he's better than them.

Rubbish. Pointing out dangerous errors is very helpful.

He has now googled and found the correct term. It is always better to find out yourself. You will remember more readily.

The cable is designed like that to give flexibility for your needs. Often used for Aircon or similar

    I fully agree.
However, you would not attempt to write "better than them are" - would you?
Your statement should have been "just trying to prove he's better than they."

If you "complete" it, the statement becomes "just trying to prove he's better than they are."

I agree - I apologise for using colloquial English; I do my best.

Though apparently 'than', as a preposition, has been used since the mid-16th century.

There is Positive and Negative in an AC supply, they just can't make up their minds which wire to use, jumping back and forth 50 times a second

I am not trying to prove anyone is better than anyone else. I am just correcting a mistake.
